I believe earlier this season he was having some weight problems and was complaining about lack of playing time. I think he's more suited to Sacramento's style of play... more player and ball movement, well except in some instances when Cutino Mobley jacks up a quick shot or over dribbles and hogs the ball.

    What's your take on this?

    O'Neal speaks out
Pacers center thinks age limit has racist undertones
    Posted: Tuesday April 12, 2005 2:07AM; Updated: Tuesday April 12, 2005 2:07AM

TORONTO (AP) -- Indiana center Jermaine O'Neal said the NBA's desire to put an age limit in the next collective bargaining agreement could be driven by racism.

"In the last two or three years, the rookie of the year has a been a high school player. There were seven high school players in the All-Star game, so why we even talking an age limit?" said O'Neal, who was drafted out of high school in 1996 by the Portland Trail Blazers.

"As a black guy, you kind of think that's the reason why it's coming up. You don't hear about it in baseball or hockey. To say you have to be 20, 21 to get in the league, it's unconstitutional. If I can go to the U.S. army and fight the war at 18, why can't you play basketball for 48 minutes?"

The NBA's seven-year labor agreement expires after the season and NBA commissioner David Stern has asked for a 20-year-old age limit in the next deal, with incentives provided to players who defer their draft eligibility to stay in college. The union originally opposed raising the current age limit of 18, but has begun to waver.

Cleveland's LeBron James won the rookie of the year award last season, and Phoenix's Amare Stoudemire took home the honor for the 2002-03 season. Both were drafted out of high school.

    Ignorance.

Lebron James is the exception to the rule, and to some extent Kevin Garnet. For all-stars like Kobe Bryant, Tracy McGrady, Tracy McGrady, all had to endure growing pains before breaking out...

yun din ang point, a dime a dozen talaga magagaling from HS, all the more reason that most HS should go to college first.

I'm just guessing here, but maybe it's because all the guys who made the jump from HS to college are African Americans. And implementing an age limit affects African Americans the most.

J.O.'s using of the word racism is not the right word to use regarding the imposing of an age limit in the NBA. Imposing an age limit doesn't suggest that then NBA is against black teens from entering the league. It just so happens that majority (if not all) of these teens are black, and this is not the reason behind this proposed policy. Although he made a point that if 18 yr olds are old enough to fight a war, then y not bsktball. I don;t think that's racism?? It;s another thing.

Heres my take on this... if teams don't draft HS players with the frequency in the last few years then the NBA won't have this problem. These so called "scouts" more often than not base their scouting report on 1 on 1 work outs not in actual games... and these kids (most) get exposed in actual games because they aren't physicall and psychologically ready for the grind of an 100+ game (including pre season) schedule. Given... most of the HS players drafted in the last 10 years are still in the NBA only a handfull didn't make it and with the money the NBA is throwing at HS players its hard to blame them for making the jump... the prospect of getting the next Kevin Garnet or Kobe Bryant is simply to good to pass up hence a staggering jump in HS players getting picked.

In addition to that, scouting reports about a player (esp HS) is based on playing AGAINST HS players. If a kid is unusually tall, athletic for his age, he'll always look like a superstar phenom... Put him against college players and the pros, that's all he'll be, a kid.

In addition, like what all writers say, for every Kobe, KG, LeBron, there will be 10 duds along the way. If you do the math, it doesn't make sense to get em.
