Ummm... what's the point of maintaining the *correct* pressure at all times?
Car companies & tire manufacturers have already taken tire pressure difference into account with their tires & recommended tire pressure level. That is why you only measure tire pressure at cold.
Given the 1.7 psi increase that you mentioned... what harm would an increase of that scale do? Wouldn't tires inflated above normal give better gasoline consumption? Also - most tires have a maximum tire pressure of around 45-50psi. Way above the 1.7 psi increase from the recommended 29-32 psi of most vehicles.
I've also tried measuring my tires from cold to hot (after 25 kms of use... going through EDSA & NLEX) and the tire pressure barely increased by 1 psi.

in my case, i have always suffered from tire blowouts in all the sets of tires i had on my vehicles since i started driving. btw, 85% of my mileage is mostly highway driving and i change sets at least once a year.
it was only in my last two sets of tires that were nitrogen filled that i did not experience any blowout. just for that alone, ok na sa akin ang nitrogen for my tires.

i agree with the constant pressure argument. i put in nitro sep 2, checked in on sep 20, and last oct 8. same same. considering when i had it checked on sep 20, i had just come from a 30km trip, while on oct 8, i had slowly come from about a kilometer away.
fuel consumption, well, i'd say it should just make your consumption more consistent, assuming the other factors (i.e. driving style, distance, traffic, etc.) are the same. but it didn't help make my car drink less.
ride quality, same.
would i have nitrogen put in my other car's tires? with my actual findings, and that of other of our Tsikot brethren, i just might, so as to reduce the psi fluctuation and make the fuel consumption more consistent (oh, and to make tire wear more even). ...if i have the time, and the cash...

Nitrogen Air :
1. Soft comfortable ride & handling.
2. Reduce tire heat.
3. Lightweight saves fuel.
4. Eliminates Internal Oxidation
5. Non - flammbale & avoids risk of tire explosion
6. Used for formula 1 racing & military/airplanes

December 5th, 2006 11:01 PM #117hi. just replaced tires for my hiace van Sgrandia with a dunlop brand. the dealer said that it is better to replace the ordinary air in the tires with nitrogen air. can you comment on this. thanks

This has been discussed numerous times. Nitrogen is better than atmospheric air.
BUT take into account cost vs. benefit, you won't be deriving much benefit from it.
You will never run a tire into temperatures so hot or in environments so cold that you can take advantage of pure nitrogen's properties. Unless maybe you drive your Grandia on the racetrack every weekend.
However, if you like the thought of having nitrogen in your tires, there's nothing wrong with that also.
I just check my tire pressure regularly and fill up with 'free' air from the gas station.

December 6th, 2006 12:08 AM #119Recently upgraded my CRVs wheels from stock 205/70x15 to 225/55x17 (Yokohama tires / Rota mags ). The dealer put in nitrogen for free. Before the upgrade, I was averaging 6 to 7 km/liter of gas. I'm now doing 7.5 to 8 km/liter.
Was the improvement due to the bigger wheels or nitrogen ? Or combination of both ?

Can also be due to speedo/odo error due to change in tire diameter.
