C4U, have you made your choice? I looked at the MSI FX420x that GH recommended its a very nice rig. Specialy with 12 months to pay. I'm sure if you pay cash or straight credit card transaction, you can get it cheaper. Just get a licensed 64 bit Win7 OS and your set. The shop will install it for you, free na labor. Download Microsoft Security Essentials and you will be relatively safe from viruses.

BTW, slowing down of computers can also be due to the fragmentation of your hdd or an over loaded registry.

I haven't bought one yet but I'm leaning towards Toshiba. I'm still deciding whether it's worth the risk to buy in the US for a cheaper price but without international warranty. Entry level Toshiba notebooks sold in Manila kasi cost the same as premium notebooks na in the US.

What's your take on the brand MSI? I would prefer established brands like Toshiba or Lenovo kasi.

I forgot to add, what feature do I need to watch out that would enable me to connect my laptop to my television in an easy and non fuzzy manner? Is it just the HDMI cable that I need?

I'd go with Lenovo for their Int'l Wrnty Service (IWS).

International Warranty Service Terms And Conditions (English)

Just make sure you buy a unit with IWS. I tend to think na yung mga cheapest models lang ang walang IWS, if ever.

BTW, I think Ry_tower meant MSI is good, but *NOT* great.

^I sent an inquiry to best buy but I need get a response if the Toshiba unit I wants comes with standard international warranty.

Sandy Bridge is a great feature pala. I kind of want it but the Lenovos being sold at Villman doesn't have it yet. I don't think local Toshibas has it too.

I think the Lenovos in my link to you do have the sandy bridge feature because the Core CPU has a four digit model number which is indicative of it being the 2nd generation Intel Core processor with Sandy Beach.

In fact, all the notebooks with Intel Core CPUs I have suggested to you in this thread have the Sandy Beach feature.

FYI. sandybridge is not a feature but the name of the architecture of the latest generation of CPUs made by Intel. The great thing about this is that the graphics processor is already integrated with the CPU so your PC can still ran even without the graphics card.

The one linked by GH is good and villman is known for their warranty service. they have a higher mark-up though compared to other shops.

i use toshiba laptop since 2004 up until now its still running, ibig sabihin very reliable siya. kahit yun isang laptop na toshiba na binili ko para sa misis ko is still running ok, Kung bibili ka naman nang apple ang tanong ko lang diyaan do they spare parts and service centers sa philippines in case of hardware breakdown? lahat nang software na iinstal mo diyaan ay may restrictions hindi ka basta basta makapagdownload & upload kailangan compatible for apple lang which is very expensive. tingin mas practical pa din ang toshiba, tsaka every year ang bilis mag depreciate nang computers.

Computers depreciate in value quickly regardless of brand. That is true with all electronics since they become obsolete in a short span of time.

As for Apple aftersales service, it is available in the Philippines through official Apple service centers. Spare parts are available, or at worst wait for a few days. They even check the serial numbers of laptops in case it was reported stolen.

Just purchased a 15.6, i3 processor Toshiba Satellite Laptop for 189 rials, roughly around 21k pesos as replacement for my Asus Netbook.

So far so good, bang for the buck desktop replacement for 24 hours download to prevent homesick from settling in.

I hate how Toshiba is so expensive here in the Philippines

I still can't decide whether to go for the Lenovo at Villaman or purchase a Toshiba from the US. I would have purchased the Lenovo, my problem is the screen is my minimum requirement (14"). I would be prefer a 15" screen. 17" would make me happy

I cannot believe also the price of Toshiba in the Phil., overpriced, and when I was there a month ago, I cannot see 15.6 lcd screen except for that model that costs around 100k pesos.

15.6 is a joy to have, watching movies and video call with the kids.

Toshiba Satellite series din yung company issued laptop sa MNC before when I was working there, matibay nga. 4 years no problem. BTW 17" yun kaya sulit manood ng movies hehehe

better call tricom to clarify the international warranty, cause when i got my toshi 4 years ago from the US, i inquired about it, and tricom said that they don't honor warranties on units bought outside the Phils. they would just repair and of course charge you for parts.

Lucky my toshi is still up and running already upgraded the ram and HDD.

sobrang mahal talaga benta ng toshi dito the unit i got was about 35k from the US. my gf's friend got her unit in greenhills, exact same model and it cost her about 60k.
