I'm looking to get the Mrs. a netbook this end of December during our trip to HK. Any recommendations/rumors of new releases on or around that time? I'm looking at the HP Mini (awesome looks, large keyboard, aluminum finish), but also considering Lenovo, Acer and MSI.
Would greatly appreciate your input. TIA

Also check if your VPN server is capable of split-tunneling. This feature allows you to surf the Internet and VPN resources at the same time.
Split-tunneling automatically adds the subnets behind the VPN server to the VPN client's routing table.
If you wish to just manually add routes into your Windows PC routing table, you can make it persistent (survive a reboot) with the "-p" switch, like so:
route add 192.168.10.0 mask 255.255.255.0 192.168.100.254 -p

This is my new "netbook" ... I bought it just over a week ago.
AMD Yukon Mobile Technology, AMD Athlon™ Neo X2 Dual-Core L335 1.6GHz, 12.1" 1366 x 768 HD-ready, 2GB DDR2 Memory, 250GB HDD, ATI RADEON X1270, 1.3 MP Webcam, HDMI, D-Sub, 3 x USB 2.0 4-in-1 (MMC/SD/MS/XD), DOS
I installed Windows 7 Ultimate. Runs like a dream.

P22,000 cash. Without Windows.
As for buying it, you got to be careful. There are different models available.
U200
U210
U210x
The U200 is fastest of the three but also most expensive at around P25k.
The U210 is the AMD single core version. Released in the US.
The U210x is the AMD dual core version. Released in the Philippines.
Future model is the U230 which is the same as the U210x but with faster video chipset.

Anywhere between 2.5 hours (ECO mode off) to nearly 8 hours (Turbo-Battery ECO mode with lowest screen brightness).
In "Office" ECO mode and not much web access, it can manage nearly 7 hours.
In the same mode but heavy web use, it was running for over 5 hours with battery charge to spare for another hour plus.
In Theater ECO mode, battery life is 4.5 hours.

Kinda ironic that this bigger and more powerful U210x netbook can have a longer battery life than my smaller U100+ with the same battery size (9-cell).Last edited by ghosthunter; November 30th, 2009 at 09:18 AM.
