It could be just the latch which locks the DVD is a hair trigger.

As for HDD space, it's pretty easy to upgrade the onboard 60gb to anything up to 500gb with some performance gains from faster read/write speeds.

er ... wait, I think your HDD might be PATA type... not sure what the biggest size for those drives are.

I think PATA drives go up to 750gb. That's the biggest I've seen the last time I went to Best Buy. All the terrabyte ones were SATA.

Oh. those were all 3.5" desktop drives.

    I was referring to 2.5" notebook/mobile drives.

    fast and very good looking?

I'm guessing you work in web/graphics design where a good looking laptop is a plus (presenting a design on a stylish laptop helps with the clients). on the top of my head, Dell's studio XPS 13 looks real nice but It's gonna be hard to source one in the Philippines. It's a notebook not a netbook though. Some might say Dell breaks easily but they have improved so much in design and functionality since last year.

add: Sony Vaio type Z and SR looks great too.

Yes I am, I used to carry this laptop around without it's bag. It's sleek and very thin despite it's production year (2005-2006)

Might take the Vaio, I just hope they launch a new model before the year ends or in January. If it will take longer, then I'll just settle for the best looking 13" Sony. 15" kasi lagi nakikita ko

Here's the Vaio I'm looking to buy when I go to Singapore

    • Intel® Atom™ Processor Z540 (1.86 GHz, HT Technology supported)
    Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium (32-bit)
    • 11.1" wide (WXGA: 1366 x 768) ; VAIO Display Premium, LED backlight
    • All for extremely thin and light
    • Extremely long Battery life
    • Integrated Wireless LAN IEEE 802.11b/g/Draft n

    http://www.sony.com.sg/product/vpcx113kg

I hope the specs is good enough to run Photoshop CS4, Dreamweaver CS4, Memory-eating Firefox, YM and Winamp simultaneously without the lag.

I checked the Western Digital, Seagate/Maxtor, Fujitsu, Hitachi, and Samsung web sites.

The biggest capacity 2.5" PATA hard drive I've seen was a Western Digital 320gb. All the companies have moved higher capacities to SATA.

Not sure about the Atom Z540 but if it runs similar to the N280 or N330, you can do the last three of the listed apps with no problem but once you load either Photoshop or Dreamweaver, expect lags if you use other apps at the same time.

You might be better off going beyond Atom based netbooks and moving on to full notebooks.
