Actually that's a really good way to get the best bang for the buck. Super tindi ng depreciation ng laptops so you can get a 1-2 yr old laptop for half the price as a brand new one with only 10% less performance.

Ang watch out lang is the battery life, so it's also nice if you can get a laptop with an easily available replacement battery.

The thing with laptops though is that there are so many variants out there, it's hard to shortlist which specs and which models you want. But if you take the time to do the research, you really end up saving a lot of money.

I recently bought a Lenovo Ideapad 320 primarily for school use. Serves it's purpose very well.

I still have my Lenovo G470 which is 5 years old now, just replaced the battery, still working fine.

The only thing you would not like with Lenovo is it's indestructible. You wouldn't get enough reason to buy a new one.

Thank you for all the tips! Been researching all day and i learned a ton. I narrowed it down to two choices if i get brand new:

    Acer Aspire E15 i5
    Dell Inspiron 5567

Ill be getting extra RAM and an SSD as well if possible iupgrade.

Pero intriguing option nga to get a secondhand one! The Inspiron 7567 looks like a good deal and checks a lot of boxes and i find a lot of the ultrabooks very appealing. To think i was looking at budget chromebooks at first ngayon andito nako haha lagot

Suggestion: Get something with the Core i5 8250u CPU minimum, instead of the i5/i7 7xxx CPUs. If you plan to do a lot of work on your laptop, masusulit mo yung extra cores in the future.

Picked up a Lenovo from abroad about 1.5 years ago. Can't seem to find a similar model around here. A little heavier and bigger but needed it for some extra computing power. Mas mahal mga laptop dito by far.

The aspire e15 with the 8250u cpu looks like a perfect model for my needs but ive yet to find one with the ssd included and 8gb ram. I see one with a 2tb hdd alternative though and only 4gb of ram. Expensive nga dito satin. Anyone recently buy through amazon? Kasmusta experience sa customs?

Ive been looking at gaming laptops recently. The Legion y520, Nitro 5, VX15 and the 7567. Actually going to SM Cyberzone tomorrow to start canvassing the prices and current promos.

Don't get a secondhand laptop, not worth the potential headaches (unless kilala mo may-ari).

    25 to 35k

    Mi Notebook Air 12.5 (Core m3) — PhP 28,990 (128GB), P31,990 (256GB)

    40 to 45k

    Mi Notebook Air 13.3 (Core i5) — PhP 43,500

Specs are really good and form factor is nice. Xiaomi has a shop in Trinoma, near Cinema 5.
Review and photos: Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air 13 (217) Nvidia MX15 / i5 72U Review

The Mi Notebook Air 13 2017 edition is a fantastic notebook, it’s very quick, much faster than the 2016 model especially if you look at the GPU. It can handle most tasks with ease and even play some AAA 2017 titles like Battlefield 1 with playable frame rates. The GPU performance surprises, the SSD in the 256GB model is crazy fast thanks to the Samsung NVMe drive used.

End of the day, the refresh is a welcomed upgrade to the Mi Notebook Air 13, pushing the limits of what this small form factor can offer. It’s just a shame Xiaomi didn’t make any changes like offering up a 16GB RAM or most importantly improving the cooling. 52 degrees C to the touch after a 1-hour gaming session isn’t good at all, if you do plan to game on it, make sure you prop it up at least or better yet invest in a laptop cooler.

Madali lang palitan yung SSD and RAM IF the model you buy doesn't have soldered storage and RAM and if madaling ibaklas. I normally look at reviews and youtube teardowns to see how kung kaya gawan hehe.

I got the base model and upgraded the SSD later. Comes out cheaper than if it came with it.

The Inspiron 7567 has the easiest upgrade path I have seen in a modern laptop. Only 1 captive screw to loosen and the whole panel comes off revealing an easy to upgrade layout.

Do we get the IPS screen models here? Based on a quick check, some 1080p screens still come with TN panels.

PC masters, ask lang ako ng advise nyo.

Considering that my HP laptop is equipped with a 4 generations lower Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4210U CPU * 1.70GHz with 4GB RAM, how much of an improvement am I looking at if I add an 8GB RAM vis-a-vis it's 4k cost at Lazada.

    Thanks.

For 'normal' use, instead of going with more RAM, look into replacing your hard disk with an SSD first. Look for either the Micron/Crucial MX500 and the Samsung 850/860 Evo. Choose what fits your budget but don't bother with the 120/128GB drives.

The 4210u is still very capable today. Pero by now, siguro nag wwear out na yung hard disk, and 5400rpm (even 7200rpm) hard drives weren't very fast to begin with.. Go youtube your particular laptop model to see how easy/difficult it is to replace the hard disk.

250GB drives should be within range of 4-6k, and 500GB drives should be about 7-10k. Di ka magsisisi if this is your first solid state drive hehe.

Yes sir, I already saw 2 vids on how to open my pc, one was more complex than the other since I have to remove the motherboard to access RAM and HDD. Now I have to google what SSD specs are best to replace the existing TOSHIBA MQ01ABD100 - 931.51 GB. Aside from transferring windows and other programs hehehe.

Wala masyadong difference ang mga previous-gen i5 sa current gen. Nasa 5-10% per generation lang ang improvement (Intel is coasting because AMD can't catch up anyway, gone are the days of the CPU wars).

Tama si mda, getting an SSD will give you the most tangible improvement in responsiveness. My 11-year old PC with a Core 2 Quad Q6600 with a 256 GB SSD and 6GB RAM still runs fine for browsing, Photoshop, and Lightroom.

After upgrading to an SSD, saka ka lang magupgrade to 8GB RAM if you still see the need for it. But if you don't do heavy Photoshop, Lightroom, or Premiere, hindi pa kailangan yung 8GB.

All of my recommendations will work with what you have basta you can access the HDD. The MQ01ABD100 is SATA so sureball compatible yun.

    Samsung 850 Evo
    Samsung 860 Evo
    Crucial MX500

All 3 should come with cloning software, so all you need to do is to hook up the SSD to a USB to SATA drive dongle or external hard disk enclosure (sold separately) and clone the device BEFORE you swap.

    Thanks Jut!

Wow Sir MDA, may complete specs and instructions pa! Thanks a lot!

SSD nga muna! I saw the Samsung at Lazada and price is just 1k higher than the 8GB RAM.

Yep most vendors are still selling the TN panel. Thats why Im leaning a little bit towards the Acer/Lenovo options. Is it that big a difference?
