Yeah I game mainly on the PS4 so I should be impressed easily haha. I did have a mid range, but old graphics card (R9 280X) that i used until my desktop died so Im hoping for similar performance.

Youre right sorry for highjacking the thread. Just went with the suggestions of people and walang true entry level laptops out of the box with ssd and sufficient ram. But did learn a ton so thanks tech gurus!

Bulok ng GPU ng laptop ko pero I don't play games on this din naman. I just needed the quad core...

if you look at the 6700hq vs 8250u. the 8250 has 4cores8threads. it has better single core efficiency and imc. mas mura pa.

The 8250u is a great CPU for bursty workloads... kaya niya itapat/malagpasan yung 6700HQ. Pero the extra 30w of TDP will kick in when you need a lot of sustained power (100% for over a few minutes at a time).

Yung problem is the 8250u WILL start throttling quite early, which is why the base clock speed has been dropped vs the 7xxx-u counterparts; also dependent on how good the cooling on the particular laptop unit is. I've seen some testing wherein i5s of one laptop outperform i7s of others in sustained testing.

I agree though, that for most users, okay na yung 8250u.

Still not regretting the 6700HQ on mine. Helped (and is still helping me a lot) for work, sulit na yung 55k for this laptop back in 2015.

Funny how Intel suddenly stepped up their game this year.

For the past 5 years or so, you would only see 5-10% improvements between generations of Intel CPUs. Then suddenly, AMD comes up with a competitive Ryzen, and now Intel suddenly puts a quad-core i5-8250U as their mainstream chip.

Obviously the 8250U blew everything in its price range out of the water.

We need AMD to be competitive to keep Intel up on their toes.

Well to be fair, only your PC is outdated, assuming you still have the time for games haha. The rest are still quite solid for what they are supposed to do.

My older Haswell 4770K gaming PC (except no time to game) is my older machine, and my personal/work laptop is a Thinkpad P50 (no plans to game on this one).

Don't plan on updating anything soon. I used to ogle at all the newer CPUs and GPUs that used to come out. Buti ngayon na medyo boring, hindi na masyado. Hanggang ogle lang. Each PC lasts me minimum 5 years. Yung Q6600 namatay yung board, couldn't find a decent replacement e. Found the CPU a good home in the office though when an old E7400 CPU died.

Make sure to load up lang on dongles for that Macbook haha. One of the reasons I got this Thinkpad nga was because of the IPS. Pero as with Thinkpads... famous for durability and their bad screens hahaha. This one, pwede na though.

Also looking into a PS4 or a Switch, pero pinag iisipan ko pa. Picked up a decent pair of speakers na may optical input na cheap-ish for that future possibility/eventuality.

Actually sa GPU upgrade cycles, medyo nag stagnate na rin for 1080p and non-ultra specs. A midrange 1050Ti will do fine for most games at 1080p naman din, given that the consoles only really run at 1080p or less, and at ~30ish fps.

Napansin ko rin na mas hindi na ako ganun ka particular sa graphics now compared to before, basta hindi panget sa mata yung game hahaha.

where do you get the extra 30w? tdp ng 8250u is only 15w. turbo of all cores is 2.3ghz hence a lower tdp.

My wife and myself were shopping for an 8th-gen i5 laptop and whittled down the choices to the Asus S410 and S510. Same price almost similar specs (MX150, 4GB RAM, 1TB HDD)

S410 - 14" monitor, 4GB VRAM
S510 - 15.6" monitor, 2GB VRAM

We were decided on the S410 but it was out of stock at the store we went to. They showed us the S510 that was on display. After a bit of discussion we made the decision to go for the bigger monitor instead. It won't be used for high-end gaming and I think I can live with lesser VRAM.

Took the whole night to update Win10. The image they used was a few months old and it took several GBs of downloads before it stabilized. It's usable now and I'll tweak it some more until I'm sure that I've optimized the settings.

Now to budget for an SSD upgrade. My office-issue T470 only has a 7th-gen i5 but startup times are noticeably faster because of its 256GB SSD. Can't install anything personal on the Lenovo though.

Generally speaking, when dealing with Windows for general usage, opt for more RAM vs. better processor. 4gb is the absolute minimum for acceptable performance, 8gb recommended.

SSD will definitely speed things up
