The pic is grossly misleading. I think the approach only applied to the one who 'surrendered' holding rosary in his hand.
A ploy by the MNLF to blend in with the rescued hostages.

this is what i heard over the radio.
i think it's an on-the-ground "screening method" used on suspicious "hostages" that were supposedly escaping from their mnlf captors (together w/ bonafide captives of the marauders). i don't think it's an attempt at bigotry by the troops or by roxas

^^ if that's how they use the tactic, tama lang. Paghindi marecite, kill them!
Only one was holding a rosary but all were asked to use it to check their religious affiliation.... buti yung iba umamin.
But the method is not wholly acceptable.
MNLF rebels try to blend in with hostages -- Roxas | Nation, News, The Philippine Star | philstar.com
"There was one captured where several civilians were walking or crouching towards security forces, and one of them was holding a rosary, and just to check because the security forces are trained to check all of those (who surrende). They were asked to say (The Lord's Prayer)," Roxas said.
"So it’s not just a Christian-Muslim thing. It’s just that soldier or the policeman was suspicious because why hold this rosary as a sign they were hostages. So there was a very quick check, just a sort of quickness of mind.
"They were asked to use the rosary… they were not (able to recite it)… But quickly after, they confessed that they were MNLF and that they have shed their uniforms and so they were… captured," he added.

I hope we become sensitive to the issues happening here. Not all hostages are christians or catholics. In fact most of the hostages are muslims also thus have no idea at all how to recite the rosary.
This is not an issue of christians versus muslims. I hope we (mostly from luzon) understand or at least try to understand the situation.

yan mga gumagawa kasi ng meme eh putting words into roxas' mouth or whoever nagsalita sa govt...theyre gonna twist it to serve their own agenda. sa totoo naman comprehension nila may problema
not all MNLF are terrorists, only those who disrupted peace & order are
the govt did just fine in capturing those perpetrators trying to trick their way out of this mess ALIVE (there is no need to shoot unarmed individuals discriminately) in order to face their day in court

Yes sir i know they wont hold a rosary on ordinary times. But this isnt ordinary.
Imagine yourself hostaged for so many days and you had the opportunity to escape. Ang unang maiisip mo is to differentiate yourselves from the rebels. Maybe nakahanap sila ng rosaryo.
Just about two days ago may hostage na lumabas mag ama na nakarosaryo. Mukhang bago pa ang rosary. Tandem pa sila. Nakakaduda. Pero they were proven hostages and not rebels.
Sta catalina and sta barbara are mostly muslim communities so it will be unfair to equate that all muslims=mnlf rebels

ako kristiyano pero di ko alam irecite yung rosary prayer. hindi kasi kami pinalaki bilang katoliko. ano yun terorista din ako?![]()
I don't mind sir.![]()
Anyway, if you read my comment, it's based on the meme that was taken out of context. Kaya if they did that Para mapakawalan and makatakas, kill! That logic does not follow your logic.
Terrorist ang branding ko sa mga nang hostage na yan.
Obviously, if your Christian and use the rosary to protect you, it's questionable that you not know how to use it.
