With all these talk about Russia being the bad guy, the world turned a blind eye on the US and UK for orchestrating the 2003 war with Iraq. Both countries justified it with the possibility of Iraq having WMD. Years passed and it was proven that the WMD reports were falsified. The US and the UK just wanted to take out Saddam Hussein. The 2003 war just pure adventurism by the US and they made the world believe they were doing it a great favor.

Russia has long stressed in the past years in its talks with the US that it will not take lightly the build up of NATO on its borders. Putin is asking to have these NATO forces piling up on what was formerly the East bloc countries (Warsaw Pact) to move out.

The US and NATO have disregarded these requests by Russia. Ukraine is the last one before NATO is knocking on the widest part of the Russian border. Since Ukraine is not yet part of NATO, countries are not obliged to defend it in case Russia invades.

when NATO set a foothold on ukraine..NATO will station nuclear tipped missiles in ukraine which will only take a few minutes to strike moscow

thats putins red flag..ukraine can remain independent as long as it doesnt become a member of NATO and start hosting nuclear missiles aimed at russians

NATO is a military alliance up against a perceived threat or enemy ready to go to war..putin isnt foolish enough to wait for destruction to come their way again (considering the 2 conquerors you mentioned) rather he would bring destruction right at NATOs doorstep

an attack on ukraine now is an actual demonstration of russias conventional military capabilities and it does not include yet its nuclear capability coz its unfair to nuke a non-nuclear country such as ukraine

what comes next should the european NATO members choose to escalate is a demonstration of russias conventional and nuclear capabilities for the US govt to appreciate. 2 NATO countries are nuclear capable UK and france. putin already announced to NATO which city between london and paris will follow the fate of hiroshima and nagazaki
