Palace: Cha-cha move not due to Roxas’ slim chances in 2016
    By Christian V. Esguerra |Philippine Daily Inquirer6:58 pm | Thursday, August 14th, 2014

MANILA, Philippines — If Mar can’t win it, just stay put?

Malacañang rejected on Thursday the idea that President Benigno Aquino III has become open to a term extension only because of the administration’s “shallow bench” in the 2016 presidential elections and the slim chances of Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas II, the presumptive standard-bearer, of winning.

According to Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma, “the more correct perspective” is the President’s purported “desire to continue the reforms he has started and ensure that they become permanent.”

“On the issue at hand, what’s important for the President is to get the public pulse. That is what’s primarily on the mind of our President,” he told reporters.

Coloma kept repeating the same line when bombarded by questions on the President’s apparent change of mind on seeking another term, one that would require amending the same Constitution ratified under his late mother’s administration.

In an exclusive interview with TV5 Wednesday, Aquino said he was aware that he was limited to a six-year term when he assumed office in 2010.

“Now, after having said that, of course, I have to listen to my bosses [the people],” he said, but clarified that he would not “automatically go after an additional term.”

Aquino also admitted that he has been entertaining constitutional amendments to clip the powers of the Supreme Court, which declared his Disbursement Acceleration Program unconstitutional.

“Before all of these happened, I admit I had a closed mind. But now I realized that there is judicial reach. Congress and the executive may act but they can be punished anytime,” he said.

Coloma said entertaining another term to purportedly continue the reforms he had started did not indicate the President’s “messianic tendencies.”

“He didn’t say that only he would do that,” he said. “His platform [of government] is his social contract with the Filipino people. What he said was his objective to change and provide transformation to our society.”

Asked if Vice President Jejomar Binay, who has long declared his intention to run for President, should be “insulted” by Aquino’s openness to term extension, Coloma said: “The Vice President himself issued a statement saying he respects the President’s decision.”

Coloma insisted that Aquino has remained “consistent” with his desire to “listen to his bosses” as “one of the basic principles of his governance.”

But Coloma did not address the President’s apparent inconsistency with his previous position against Charter change and term extension.

Last year, Aquino told Bloomberg: “I didn’t have any ambition to be president. It was fate. The people found me. I am sure they will be able to find another one out of 95 million.”

Even his late mother, former President Corazon Aquino, was adamant against term extension. In her final State of the Nation Address in 1991, she told the joint session of Congress: “My term is ending and so is yours. As we came, so should we go.”

In her book, “In the Name of Democracy and Prayer,” Mrs. Aquino recalled how she had rejected suggestions to seek another term.

“My answer was a categorical no,” she wrote. “I had not been inaugurated under the present Constitution and it did not bind me in strict terms, but I had campaigned for it and therefore took upon myself the moral obligation to follow, if not its letter then its spirit, that a presidency must accomplish its goal within six years.”

Aquino has often spoken of his parents’ legacy, particularly their role in restoring Philippine democracy, as a major guiding principle in his governance.

How the President would find out if his so-called “bosses” really wanted him to stay put, and what he would do afterward, were not clear to Coloma.

“No,” Coloma said when asked if Aquino wanted to know “for his information only.” “What he said was he wanted to make the [social] transformation permanent.”

Hahaha...who the heck they think their fooling? Well, in essence it's still correct cause the word slim is there's still chance, while Boy pick-up chance to be president is already NIL. Kasi alam na rin namn nilang Boy Pick-up is a lost cause come 2016 ans surely a lot of those in the administration now see their day in court or jail come DAANG MATUWID EXTENSION.

Aquino won?t push Charter change during his term?Palace spokesperson | Inquirer News

How ironic that the dogs of Malacanang can't get their lies in tune all together. Now face with an impending massive call for protest on Aug 25 against DAP & Charter change, their singing a different tune. As if their saying, ABNOY is so stupid he want a charter change so the future president would benefit extended term, not him. :tvcomedy:

Why would he need term extension? So he can escape being jailed if he becomes guilty in court.

Your exactly right as to where they are gonna end up after their term is over. As to Binay, while i respect your choice, let me just try to convince you just for a little why you should have to think it over again....while Noggy is a guy of sense in governance, his one hell of a crook worse than Marcos. While Marcos has his wife & daugthers in goverment when he was president, this guy have everyone of them even before he can be pres. Marcos earned his ill gotten wealth when he was president, this guy made it while still being mayor, how much more when he get's into Malacanang. He is one of UNA leader together with Erap & Enrile. Erap was a convicted plunderer, Enrile is on trial of the same charge. What make's you think he would be different? As they say, same birds flock together.

As to Makati, anyone with good intension can even make Makati much better now than how it is today for simple reason that it has a lot of money to burn. It's land taxes alone has the highest cost per square meter in the country. Business tax obviously is just every corner of the city over flowing. Can you just imagine if all of those revenue the city earn goes into it's resident benefits, it will surely be more that every pinoy squeeze themselves to be a resident of the city.

During the 2010 election when he run for VP, was it not his campaign slogan was "ganito kami sa Makati". What he did is impose to the voters if i have done this in makati, i will do the same to the country. That i call deception and true enough his terms is near closing yet where and what has he done that make sense relevant to be like Makati? Even he become president (huwag naman sana) he cannot duplicate what Makati has achieved, only a moron would believe that and unfortunately this country has a lot of them. Managing a wealthy city is not the same to managing a poor country.

Ayala Land to spend P60 billion to 'Make it Makati'

    by Coco Alcuaz, ANC
    Posted at 03/22/2012 5:23 PM | Updated as of 03/23/2012 6:56 AM

MANILA, Philippines - Ayala Land Inc. said Thursday it and Makati Commercial Estates Association will spend P60 billion over the next five years to carve their Makati properties into six districts as it launches a "Make it Happen, Make it Makati" campaign.

The amount, about 95% to be shouldered by Ayala Land, is about a third of the company's total budget for the period, President Antonino Aquino said. Ayala Land's total budget this year, covering construction and acquisitions, is P37 billion, more than a fifth over last year's.

The purpose is to create "opportunities for all" to live, shop and be entertained and work in Makati, Meann Dy, head of strategic land banking, said at a briefing.

Ayala Land to spend add’l P65B to further develop Makati
This is on top of the P60B the company earlier committed for Makati’s redevelopment

MANILA, Philippines – Property giant Ayala Land Inc. is spending an additional P65 billion over the next 5 years to build new residential developments, office buildings and hotels in the Makati central business district.

The amount is on top of the P60 billion investment over a 6-year period that the company announced in 2012.

“Makati remains and will always remain as Ayala Land’s top priority… our largest source of value and our most important asset,” Ayala Land vice president Meean Dy said in a press briefing on Thursday, August 14.

The company plans to build 5 new hotels, 8,000 square meters of retail and office space, and 3,700 residential units in Makati, according to Dy.

The developments will rise in 3 key areas: the Ayala Center, Ayala Triangle Gardens, and a new mixed-use project called City Gate.

Phase 2 of Ayala Center will commence, covering the existing area of Intercontinental Hotel and its parking lot. Two new hotels will be built in the area – one of which will carry the brand Seda – along with two office towers, a business convention center, and a public transport terminal with retail component. The area spans 2.5 hectares, with 250,000 to 300,000 square meters of gross floor area.

Ayala Land will also start new developments within Ayala Triangle Gardens, including an 80,000-square meter high-grade office, and the 275-room Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

City Gate, a mixed-use project located at the corner of Ayala Avenue and Buendia Avenue, will also be constructed. The project will feature 81,000 square meters of office space, a 312-room Seda Suites Hotel, and 14,000 square meters of retail space.

Ayala Land president Bernard Vincent Dy said Makati was a vital asset accounting for 30% of the company’s net income. – Rappler.com
