hi guys! i need to replace the muffler ng astra (yung secondary, yung nasa pinakahuli). hindi pa naman butas but kinakain na ng kalawang yung dulong part kaya bago ako abutin ng butas sa daan, plano ko palitan na. a friend suggested i just get a stainless surplus muffler sa banawe na almost same size (not necessarily exact) para daw mas mura. okay ba talaga ganito? anyone here replaced their mufflers already? magkano inabot?

Thanks for the warm welcome Boss!

Unfortunately, due to budget constraint I can't buy the SRI one... too dear. I have the ASTRA City 2001 Model. It is a 1.8L 16V one. I posted some photos in the gallery section.

Yes, you can get any muffler you like. But I suggest, don't get a surplus muffler. Get a new stainless or some other high quality muffler. I think may makukuha ka naman sa mga CPM or those other OEM muffler makers since they can copy the size and specs..

The squeking noise from teh brakes is actually a "feature" they said na and actually a sign of pads getting worn out... yung hulihang gulong ko eh napalitan ng buo yung brake disc and pads kasi talagang worn out na... di ko kasi naririninig yung mga high pitch noise. nabibingi na yata ako

Hi MFO,... This is not a documented top speed but I've tried mine in a full throttle from 0 to 100 and it took me not longer than 10 seconds. I have no one else to test this with me so it is based on my mobile phone's stopwatch feature and siyempre hindi ganoon ka accurate. Mine is stock btw...

My petrol consumption, on the other hand is a little bit over the top (planning to have it check on next due). Based on city (and way of driving) I can only reach around 400+kms which I reckon I can get around 560kms. On a long trip, I can reach around 550kms which is dapat nasa 800kms. I'm not sure what could be the problem. Is there any adjustment that we can do to conserve those golden liquids but not affecting performance? I have no knowledge in mechanical stuffs really...

Photos of my car is here: http://tsikot.yehey.com/gallery/show...0&ppuser=12532

Sanga pala, I noticed your air filter... yun ba yung tinatawag na K&N? If I replaced mine, do I need to adjust something para dito or just simply replaced them and you'll gain extra peroformance na... sorry for the newbie questions. But that's one reason kung ba't ako sumali sa forum... marami kasi akong matututunan eh... thanks

regarding the gas consumption. The most you can do is get the car in top shape. The ECOTEC engine is designed in a way that there is very low exhaust emissions in the expense of higher fuel consumption. Unfortunately, we cannot do anything to adjust the engine since these are all controlled by the ECU.

We have the same 1800 engine. What I did to have a better fuel consumption is to: These are all Do it Yourself Things.

    1) have the valve body cleaned. Just follow the tubes from the aircleaner, leading to the valve body. Remove the tubes and you will see a flap inside the valve body. Clean it the butterfly valve thoroughly around the corners. Also, try to clean the insides of the rubber tubes leading to the valve body.

    2) buy a new aircleaner. It should be replaced often. Just get the OEM type. Forget about those K&N aftermarket filters. It will eventually ruin your Mass Airflow Sensor.

(I know a lot of guys use K&N. But K&N uses some type of oil on this filter which clogs the MAF. The MAF is so sensitive that oil will destroy it. You cannot even wipe the insides of the MAF since masisira ito. The most you can do is just have pressurized air to clean it. K&N is better suited for JAPANESE cars such as HONDA or TOYOTA that does not use a MAF system.)

    3) De-restrict the aircleaner housing box. Remove 2 tubes inside this housing. There is one on top and one on the bottom held only by clips.

    4) Change the spark plugs. Specifically get the OEM plugs with the dual contact.

    5) Change oil. Get a fully synthetic 10W-40.

    6) Use a higher octane gas. It does not matter if it is more expensive. Trust me, you will have better mileage with this in our X18Xe engine...

    7) Check the air on the tires. 34 psi in front and 32 at the back.

    8) Of course, eventually, everything depends on your driving habits...
