how much charge ni boss rene sir? tnx!
balitaan ko lang group:
muntik ng mag-overheat astra ko. turned out may leak and palyado na ang radiator thermostat.may nakagawa naman mekaniko along the way (I was in Calamba noon).but iyong thermostat, tinanggal nya na.hindi naman daw talaga kailangan sa Pilipinas iyon kasi mainit naman sa atin.So, tumakbo naman ang sasakyan with no problem. normal din naman ang temp gauge reading. I called up casa to ask for the thermostat, assembly pala daw yon binibili and wala pa sila stock. What do you think? wala naman siguro epek sa car yon in the long run?
Try to observe the car's performance without the thermostat.Originally Posted by guguly
What is important is that the car should heat up and reach normal operating temperature as fast as possible during cold start-up. If the thermostat is already open in the morning. e di malamig masyado ang takbo and matagal uminit ang engine.
Remember, we have a catalytic converter and EGR-valve system wherein hot-normal operating temperature is needed ASAP. Baka masira ito earlier than usual if there is no thermostat.
If you have a lot of short trips everyday, most probably, may masisira na component somewhere since madalas ang cold start up. $$$$
Better have a Thermostat. The car is not your old-school carburated TOYOTA wherein they remove the thermostat.

Parang pumapalya yung makina. yung tachometer, taas-baba na pag nagre-rev. mas super tagal ngayon tumaas temp gauge.more than 10 minutes na, naka-down pa rin yung gauge..can anyone recommend a mechanic na pwede mag home service? 09175454098. tnx!

I just don't know where to buy parts if you are coming from laguna. Unless sa CASA or you plan to go to thunder in masangkay Binondo.
ok, thank you, sir. try ko muna mekaniko taga dito amin. tumawag na ako thunder, meron naman sila thermostat (3.2K daw). no choice naman ako but lumuwas para bili pyesa.
wag lang sana ibang pyesa naakpektuhang masira.
Wow, mahal pala ng thermostat.. Original GM ba yung 3.2K?? Wala bang replacement sa Thunder or Fronte?? But, fortunately, may nakuha ako na surplus Thermostat lang without the housing. Originally Posted by guguly

hindi ko naitanong sa thunder kung orig yung na-quote sa aking price o replacement lang. but i also called gm shaw and sabi sakin, hindi daw nakakabili sa knila ng radiator thermostat lang. 4.2k++ daw sa kanila yung assembly na kasama na ang thermostat. out of stock nga lang daw.Originally Posted by edl100

had the car checked. it turned out na yung coil pack (ignition coil) pala ang may sira kaya parang pumapalya makina. nagmi-misfire kasi ang spark plugs.
fyi,here are the cost noong coil:
casa= orig, 14k+
fronte= orig, 12.5k
thunder= orig, 11.5k
replacement, 7.5k
replacement lang ang pinakabit ko. of course, palit na rin ang radiator thermostat. everything is okay now.good as new na ulit ang car.
Great!! Nagawa na yung car.Originally Posted by guguly
May I ask what brand is the replacement coil in Thunder?? So you also got the thermostat there too??
This ignition coil is a common part that easily gets broken after about 50,000kms of extreme traffic and high engine temp.
What is now your engine temp?? a little below 90??
Delphi ang nakatatak na brand doon sa coil. parehong-pareho actually ng orig pag pinagtabi mo. only difference is walang nakatatak na part # iyong replacement. I think nasira sya dahil muntik na nga akong mag-overheat, baka nainitan ng husto during that time kaya bumigay na.Originally Posted by edl100
my engine temp hovers around 90 (baba-taas konti minsan) traffic or not.trapik nga kanina sa q.ave pero steady lang sya doon.sa slex kanina, its a little below 90.Effective and needed nga talaga yung thermostat.
The ignition coil on my Astra gave up close to a year ago when my mileage was only about 21T kms more or less. Bad trip nga coz the warranty expired just about 4 months prior to its breakdown. Thunder was selling at P11.5T with only a 3 month warranty. Took the casa offer of P14.5T with a 1 year warranty na lang. So far ok pa naman siya.

The Delphi brand is OK. but mahal pa din at 7.5K.. That coil really gets beaten up if the engine always run very hot.
Originally Posted by cocojam
Anyway, it is also a common problem on most Ford lynx and some Lancers that uses this type of design.
I got a 1998 Opel Omega running aroung 48T km. Replaced the timing belt around 32T km, replaced the "bearings" in the engine around 30T km and it cost 25T. Now, it needs a new transmission 'coz GM Cebu didn't change the ATF during the last 40T km PMS. Any of you guys know where we can get an automatic transmission?
This is probably the most problematic car I've ever had with the most stupid service center here in Cebu.
Thanks!
Ohhh. Why will you change the whole transmission? I am sure the dealer quoted a fortune.Originally Posted by crazydragons
what is wrong with it?? It doesn't shift, it slips, it got burned, it ran with low ATF??
It would really be hard to help since all the shops that I know are based in Manila..

Had the transmission unmounted and dis-assembled by another mechanic (not from GM Cebu) you could really see the metal gashes inside the clutch. To metion, GM Cebu quoted me 300K for the new transmission including installation. I could buy a dependable 2nd hand car with that amount. I'm just trying to lower it to my budget to around 150K to 230K.
I got a few friends in Manila but they don't really know where to look. Also, it doesn't really matter if it's in Manila 'coz I really need to get the car fixed rather than store it at home.Maybe you guys could help.

2) Go to your local A/T specialty shop there in Cebu and ask if they can still rebuild the transmission. If they can do it, then ask THUNDER if they can supply all the parts needed for the A/T of the Omega. I am sure they can supply all the parts but they have to order it abroad which will take 3 weeks at least.
-- You may also cross your fingers and ask some insurance companies if they have a junked Omega lying around in a storage somewhere. There are times wherein there is an abandoned and damaged car from an accident. You can just buy the A/T for a reasonable amount.. --
You're best bet for this problem is surplus transmissions. Mahirap gumawa and magbuo kasi ng A/T tansmission even if the parts are available. Kung hindi expert ang gagawa, you might end up frying your A/T again. but unfortunately Opel surplus are a bit hard to come by.Originally Posted by crazydragons
If you know an importer/dealer/seller of surplus parts either in Cebu or Manila or maybe even in Subic, you can ask them to get/order an Opel transmission for you.You might even get lucky na baka isa sa kausapin mo, meron palang nakatagong surplus stock na katulad sayo.
