Out of curiousity, how is the immobilizer enabled/disabled?

You have to you use the keyless entry to disable the immobilizer?
There is a sensor that detects the OEM key or the keyless remote? (there is something in the key/remote?)
If you open the door locks with the key, you can't start the vehicle?

And also...
Do anyone of you know of a shop who has the template for the floor matting of the Montero sport? Since we got our Montero and the rains started, it's been really difficult keeping the floor clean. We only have the 5pc 3M Nomad matting pre-cut for sedans and sadly some parts are not covered. I would buy the 5pc mat sold by the casa if it is indeed a good fit but sadly it is made of fabric. I really want a Nomad type of matting. It doesn't matter if it is a 3pc or a 5pc set, all I need is a good fit.

from wikipedia...
An immobiliser or immobilizer is an electronic device fitted to an automobile which prevents the engine from running unless the correct key (or other token) is present. This prevents the car from being "hot wired" after entry has been achieved.

every ms key (which has embedded chip inside the rubber head) are programmed specifically on each unit. you can't start the engine using an ordinary key (copied). copied key can only be used to open the door but can't be used to start the engine. it is a feature that will deter carnappers so why disable?

I never actually wanted to disable the immobilizer. I sort of know what an immobilzer is, but I was curious as to when the immobilizer is enabled or disable, i.e. when does the car know that you are using the right key (disable the immobilizer) or the wrong key (enable the immobilizer).

So there is a chip inside the rubber head. So I'm guessing there is a sensor somewhere in the key slot?

I got confused, because I was reading the Code Alarm owner's manual and one of the features is "starter disable" which I assume is the same as the immobilizer. Correct me if I am wrong, I thought Code Alarm and the OEM key to the Montero is independent from each other, as Code Alarm is just an add-on accessory to our car just like the JVC HU. So initially, I thought the immobilizer is controlled by the keyless entry.

By the way, the reason I was reading the Code Alarm manual is because I wanted to disable the passive/automatic arming feature of the alarm. Sadly, it's not there. Does anyone know how to do it without going to the casa? Do it safely of course? I'd rather go to the casa than fumble with the alarm myself unless it's as simple as putting the alarm in valet mode. TIA.

HI sir,

As i understand about immobilizer from my ex Audi A6, it was a chip embeded inside the car key...every time when you start the engine, the sensor will sense the chip inside the key...when the code is correct, it will not cut the engine...

My experience was i use the spare key, made from outside store, it can start the engine, but it was cut off after 1 mins....so the the spare key sayang..

it's there . from the disarmed condition, turn the ignition to on position > press and hold the valet push-button switch for a few seconds or until the light becomes steady. rearming it, press and release the button switch anytime while the ignition is on.

Hi Guys,

After the ordeal of forced accessory purchase plus absorbing the price increase plus the month long wait plus the "false promises of having a unit ready but it was given to someone else due to a misunderstanding..."

I think I will finally have my Monty delivered to me this coming Thursday... *keeps fingers crossed*... My question guys, if anyone would be kind enough to chime in is regarding the tint for my Sedona Red Monty...

I asked for super black for the side and rear windows and a one piece medium black tint for the windshield... However, my SA is insisting that the "super black" tint costs more and I'll have to shell out more money as it is outside of their usual rate for dark tints... (As if I haven't shelled out enough money, tsk, tsk)

I just want to get your opinion, for those who have had their Monty's tinted at the dealer prior to delivery if this is true or am I being fed another load of bullcr*p... (excuse the language)...

Your advice would be really appreciated!

Thanks in advance and I hope that I'm welcome to join the club once I get the Monty...

Regards

Dear Darwin,

Thank you for your follow up query regarding the immobilizer system and please find below our reply to your concern.

1. What about for MS 4x2 A/T? does it have engine immobilizer?
Yes, the New Mitsubishi Montero Sports 4X2 AT is also equipped with immobilizer system.

2. Whats the purpose of the immobilizer?
The purpose of the immobilizer is to prevent the engine from starting the vehicle if a key other than the key which is registered for the vehicle is used after an attemp to start the vehicle after force entry.
Where it was installed and located?
The immobilizer is located and installed in the ignition key cylinder.

3. How it will function / its work?
The immobilizer works when the ignition key is turned ON. The registered ignition key transmits its own key ID via radio wave. Tthe immobilizer controls the vehicle starting sytem to function when the sent key ID agrees with the pre-registered one. Two ignition keys are provided, and up to eight keys can be registered to one vehicle as needed.

4. How to test the immobilizer on MS 4x2 A/T unit?
Vehicle with immobilizer system will not start using an unregistered key.

We hope that the above have adressed your concern and thank you very much for visiting our website.

Sincerely,

Thanks Sir Chng238 for the kind reply... I'm trying to convince my SA to give me the same deal because I had waived the visor already as it is part of the accessory package which I had already paid for...

Wish me luck and I appreciate the warm welcome.

I look forward to joining the club's EB's and road trips in the future...

xto sir...i believe the first procedure you stated puts the alarm in valet mode, not for disabling the passive arming feature. done this so many times already whenever i wash my monty coz of the repeated opening/closing of doors or whenever i have it detailed
