December 2nd, 2015 06:58 PM #2071Agree, it's the SUA issue being discussed. If this happened to another brand/model then there would have been the same discussions.

None that we know of. I actually wish we had easy access to that kind of data, but I'm pretty sure if it was widespread there, we'd see it on some of the Thai expat forums (I browse through them from time to time).
I'm scared ****less of all Monteros and Forts on the road. Many of their drivers drive like madmen. Tailgating at speed, weaving through traffic...
Possible, but for cruise-control led SUA, as stated in the paper.
Cruise control isn't standard on the Monty, however, and modern electronic cruise control is brake-defeatable. Besides which, cruise control needs to be activated before it takes effect.
Besides, proven cases of Cruise-control led SUA were traced to switch malfunctions, rather than speed sensor malfunctions.
I've thought of that, myself, but the standard failure mode of the inhibitor switch is to drop the transmission in neutral, and the problem is not intermittent. It's pretty much terminal. Once the car heats up, the inhibitor switch malfunctions over and over again and requires cleaning and eventual replacement.

Actually, former TGP editor Mike Black chimed in on FB. He has worked in the industry for a while, and he's actually seen electronic accelerator pedal failure, first hand.
Guess what the default failure mode is? Yup. Limp mode. The car simply won't move.
I recall the story Ferman told me before about the DOST serving as witness to the Khaos Tubo-Charger testing before. Yeah... no.

Personally, it's over-reaching to say there are no defects with the Montero. Montero owners here and in the clubs know there are defects. Hell, there's a laundry list of them easily searchable here on tsikot. But none of them will lead to SUA. As a former editor of mine, who owns an MS, notes: Some of them will actually cause the Montero to not move at all.Last edited by niky; December 2nd, 2015 at 07:17 PM.

What if the car maker is a chinesse brand? Im sure panay bash lang yan at walang magtatanggol.
Or how about if it is a kia or hyundai?
My point here, mitsu has some pretty loyal fans na talagang defend kung defend.
We need an actual automotive engineer to fully digest the issue to avoid biases.

December 2nd, 2015 07:22 PM #2075Question for AT drivers who had more experience with MT.
From a stand still, pwede mo ba mapagkamalan na clutch yun brake pedal? Like for example, depress mo yun brake thinking na clutch sya then shifting to D o R then apak accelerator padiin ng pdiin kasi ayaw umandar dahil naka brake ka. Then releasing the brake slowly thinking na clutch yun. Tapos bigla mag surge yun car due to the release of stored potential energy. Pwede ba yun?

My main car is a manual, my backup car is an automatic. Minsan nakakalimutan kong matic pala dala ko, so my left foot looks for a clutch, nagugulat ako na walang pedal.
But never have I stepped on the brake pedal thinking it was the clutch. Ibang iba pedal feel ng brake ng AT because it's a much wider pedal with much less resistance.
