Every weather agency accurately predicted uls will bring heavy rains.

I posted here according to all forecasters amateurs and pro alike were predicting ondoy 2 water level.

    Sila hinde nila alam?

Doppler yata tawag doon sa nag predict ng rains and we have that placed strategically para nga malaman.

Not buying na wala na receive na data about sa amount ng ulan mga tao nun dam.

Not an excuse na hinde nila alam na maraming tubig dala ng typhoon. I don't buy it.

it probably depends on the decision-maker for water release...
is he interested in averting instant overflow disaster?
is he interested in storing water for the dry season?

i would be interested in that decison-maker's train of thought, that ended in what he finally decided to do.
it is still possible that logic was behind him, but nature had other ideas.

tsaka tagal nang nakatayo ng ng Magat. Mayroon na dapat guidelines na established for when to release the tubig, especially when approaching alarm levels, and with incoming additional load. Its either, the current guidelines are established by incompetent people, or there is some gross neglect, leading to the end result.

And near spilling level na days before yung dams. Kahit konti lang binawas nila baka naka mitigate sana.

It's the wrath of nature..we cant fight it..we just have to accept it..live with it..mitigate its effect on us

Theres too much water with the last typhoon..releasing water in anticipation of the typhoon won't change matter..that place where the typhoon dumped its water will still get flooded

Water seeks it's own level..water dumped in the Sierra mountain range will go down and settle to sea (eastern and western part of luzon). If the tides are high (climate change) it will make matters worst..it will take longer for water to recede into the coasts of luzon

for those interested in the view point of those managing the magat dam irrigation system, watch last night's edition of "wag po!". they pretty much asked the same questions that are being posted here.

the magat dam official appears at the 15 minute mark of the vid

Ulysses was a freak of a typhoon and with our local infrastructure, it would be more than a stretch to deal with it. Even the US suffered tragic effects of hurricanes like Katrina in New Orleans and Harvey in Houston. Like in Japan, all their preparation against earthquakes was not enough against the 2011 disaster.

We build to prevent the last tragedy that happened but we can’t predict how devastating future typhoon will impact us. Until such time that most people will opt to live far from waterways, the threat of flooding will always be there. In all of mankind’s history, people always thrive near rivers and waterways but these same sources of water may bring forth destruction.

I approve na nila yung Kaliwa weir project para di na ma pressure yung dam management magstock ng tubig kahit near spilling level na.

the late dr. rey punongbayan said it,
"when nature does its thing, we can only get out of its way."

i got a line of 1 in his geo class.
kararating lang niya from his studies abroad, i think. he was talking about plate tectonics, even as my understanding of it was limited to the clatter of dinner plates on the dining table.
his opening line was, "what do you know about plate tectonics?"
    OT.
    la lang.
    reminiscing.

Approve of Kaliwa too. IMO having been conceived in Marcos times I'm confident that there is sufficient research backing it, unlike yung mga projects that came since succeeding presidents na puro patchwork with no long-term planning.

Looked at the Internet temperature forecast for my area. We're supposed to be 33F/01C right now. It's currently 48F/09C. It's been decades and the computer forecast models are still terrible at face value. They're (still) almost useless without adjustments made from trained human interpretation and knowledge of local terrain.

Just pondering because I recently watched the movie Everest which showed coordinators at Base Camp using raw computer forecast models. Yuk.
