Well one factor is that Pinatubo was asleep for about 600 years and when it woke up, lahat ng naipon within that period of dormancy linabas in one big explosion. But still Taal is still dangerous given its' past eruptions. Sana nga lang it would start to calm down already.

well... it's not that simple.
it is a complex inter-action of the magma source, how it is accumulated under the volcano, and what the volcano does to defuse the situation.
while pinatubo was asleep for over 500 years, its increased activity was detected only a few months before it erupted to become the second largest eruption of a volcano in the twentieth century.

it suggests that the crust is swelling up because magma might be accumulating underneath.

Despite our advances in technology, you cannot predict volcanic eruptions kasi wala tayong monitoring equipment directly sa loob ng vents and caldera and for the simple reason that it is moher nature at work here.

They thought such an occurence only happened in atomic explosions but in 1965 the same pheomenon was observed in Taal.

Thats the base surge. Search nyo sa YT Bikini Atoll tests. There is a horizontally expanding wave at the base of thw mushroom cloud. Yun na yun.

Yung sinasabi ng Phivolcs na explosive explosion ay parang St Helens eruption, hindi pataas kungdi pa horizontal ang pagsabog. May na detect siguro ang Phivolcs na bulging o pamamaga ng lupa at magma movement sa side ng Taal . Parang warning shot ng shotgun imbes pataas, nakatutok sa iyo.

knowing what is happening, is one thing.
being able to explain it effectively to the guy on the street, is an entirely different skill.
lookit our daily weather reports from the weather office. sometimes, they can't explain plainly enough to the audience, whether to bring an umbrella today or not. in the 70s, amado pineda did it so well, the TV audience loved him. alas, nag-abroad...

i was just listening over the radio. a volcano person was being interviewed.
she was saying, taal's recent activity does not conform to the usual behavioral data that they are more familiar with.
