to these people especially yun mga nasa taas na at seryoso dito, well they know it's part talaga siguro pag member ka nyan. and even the lawmen who will catch the offending parties, i'm sure mas makaka-relate sila dun sa mga pumatay kasi dumadaan din naman sa hazing ang PNP and AFP.

so malamang walang mangyayari dito sa kaso na to, kaya siguro bibihira akong makabalita na frat group/member nakulong dahil sa hazing...

i'm still hoping justice will be serve, just to think na namatay sya sa kamay ng mga taong pinagkakatiwalaan nya... - this is assuming that his death is a the result of hazing..

OT: I have this buddy from APO who's so persistent in recruiting me during our college days. Finally one day I gave in, but in one condition.

Wag silang tumakbo pag naagaw ko ang pamalo.

Ayun di na ako kinulit uli.

On Topic: Hindi na mawawala ang hazing na yan, tsaka most fraternity has been reduced to a legal organized gang.

sometimes, the kids don't really have a choice. my nephew enrolled at a university in manila to fulfill his dream of becoming an aeronautical engineer. someone overheard him speaking ilocano, so a predominantly ilocano fraternity asked him to join. he refused, but they harrassed him so much during his stay at the university, that he had no choice but to quit school and go back to the province. the poor kid was afraid for his life...

Here's a good editorial by the Philstar:

If his son has not been involved in homicide, it would be better for Francisco Cruz, a physician of the Veterans Memorial Medical Center, to surface — preferably with his son — and shed light on the death of Cris Anthony Mendez. The 20-year-old public administration student of the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City died of injuries from a severe beating over a week ago apparently during a fraternity hazing.

A VMMC security guard identified Cruz as the person who, together with his son, brought Mendez to the hospital early in the morning of Aug. 27 in a Toyota Innova with government license plates SAB-393. Three other vehicles arrived later. Were the passengers members of the Sigma Rho fraternity, which Mendez was reportedly trying to join? The guard was not sure if Mendez was still alive when rushed to the emergency ward.

With so many details available to investigators, perhaps it would be easier to obtain justice for Mendez. Hazing has persisted because fraternities in this country have a twisted concept of brotherhood. Older members who occupy prominent positions in government and the private sector cover up crimes, from misdemeanors to heinous ones, committed by younger fraternity brothers. The judge who convicted members of the Aquila Legis law fraternity for the hazing death of Lenny Villa, for example, has curiously run into a lot of legal troubles. There is little effort among senior fraternity members to put a stop to hazing. Having experienced painful initiation rites, the older members apparently want applicants to undergo the same suffering.

What do these violent, degrading initiation rites promote? It cannot possibly be fraternity. Such rites give full rein to every fraternity member’s inner sadist, with violence inflicted in the cowardice of anonymity. It is tempting to compare this Neanderthal behavior with those of animals, but it would be unfair to the beasts, which kill only for food or in self-defense and never for sadistic fun. If Doctor Cruz and his son are not parties to such inhuman behavior, they should face investigators.

indeed it was a very tragic situation...dr cruz and his son should really come out and shed light on the incident.

ang question ko lang on this issue ay what about the other better fraternities... those that doesn't kill their would-be-brothers during their hazing process....are they that BAD too?

    Miriam wants frats, sororities abolished
    By Christina Mendez
Tuesday, September 4, 2007 Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago yesterday pushed for the abolition of all fraternities and sororities nationwide following the death due to hazing of Cris Anthony Mendez, a student of the University of the Philippines-Diliman.
“I am so furious. I am going to fight for a bill to abolish fraternities and sororities. They are nothing but elitist enclaves,” Santiago said.
Santiago said she was confident that her proposal bill will garner support because she will ask all mothers who have lost their children to testify.
“And I dare anyone to testify that they can bring to life or restore to these mothers the loss of a human life, especially a UP student who is full of promise. You might be poor, but you might become a leader of the country. How dare they do this?” she added.
Santiago noted that fraternities and sororities “follow the Mafia rule of omerta” to prevent their comrades from being caught in case of commission of a crime.
Santiago filed Senate Resolution No. 112 calling for a legislative investigation on Mendez’s death after authorities confirmed that he died from hazing-related injuries.
“As a mother who has also lost her son, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the mother of Cris Anthony,” she said.
Like Senate Majority Leader Francis Pangilinan, Santiago also wants those responsible for Mendez’s death to be prosecuted and punished.
“It’s a tragic, tragic death. Someone so promising, a student leader, had the whole world, his whole future ahead,” Pangilinan said.
Santiago lamented that UP officials seem to have not acted efficiently to address hazing activities by their students. She reminded UP officials that members of fraternities and sororities who engage in hazing activities should be sanctioned “with automatic expulsion.”
“This particular fraternity in UP, some members of which are my very, very close friends, should have better sense. They are a law fraternity, they should be first to abide by the law. Look at what they have been doing. I myself was caught in a cross-fire before during a fraternity war,” she said.
Santiago said Republic Act No. 8049, or the Anti-Hazing Law, must undergo a comprehensive review because it has failed to serve as a deterrent to hazing.
Under the law, if a person dies due to hazing, the officers and members of the fraternity, sorority, or organization who actually participated in the infliction of physical harm shall be liable as principals and shall suffer the penalty of reclusion perpetua.
