IMO a fraternity is a club but only having male members. nilalagyan na lang ng greek letters at tinatawag na fraternity para tawaging "astig"

Sa mga taga-UP, they can attest that almost all of the orgs or clubs there have initiation processes similiar to fraternities. sometimes mas mahirap pa initiation compared to other fraternities so kung iba-ban nila yun, what keeps these fraternities from changing their classification from a fraternity to a simple organization?

or iba-ban na rin ba lahat pati mga organizations? i do think that banning them is not the solution. remember, hindi lahat ng namatay sa hazing eh galing sa fraternity, meron din galing sa mga organizations. A batchmate of mine got his hand sliced by a knife and take note, hindi frat yun but a well respected science club from up with members na respected researchers and doctors sa bansa natin.

my wife came from UP. the "initiations" that the clubs there involved some mild form of public embarrassment (like singing a song in public or something harmless like that), gathering a certain number of signatures from established members, and being active in a minimum number of org activities. that's a far cry from physical torture.

but regardless, any student organization - whether they call themselves a fraternity or not - that practices torture..este, hazing should be banned

actually public humiliation is a part of the initiation process. nagkakaroon ng physical kapag "finals" na. usually meron physical pero self inflicted lang like doing push-ups and the likes. physical torture or bugbugan is a no no unless pasaway ang mga officers.....

AFAIK matagal na banned ang hazing bro. 1995 pa. ngayon ang problema eh ang compliance ng orgs or fraternities. I do think that there should be representation from the school admin sa mga "finals" which is a better alternative than banning these orgs. at least these orgs would be very careful in doing their "finals"

The latest new on Cris' case is that a witness, a houseboy, confessed details of hazing and later recants. Now why am I not surprised?

I'll bet my neighbor's ass more witnesses to this case would later recant! Of course there's the usual paid witness who has seen this sigma rho member at a party to dispute the member's presence at the hazing. And I would not be surprised either if those who took Cris to the hospital deny ever going to the hospital at all!

Even if fraternties are outlawed (i doubt it), they would only go underground. The thrill of experiencing pain, and gaining a lot from it, is too irresistible.
