I didn't want to spell it out but I think that's the case of the colleague of my Paulinian friend
She didn't come from a good gs/hs, college lang nakapag aral sa DLSU pero kung makalait ng Ateneans. Even AC she hates din daw (where did that come from [emoji15] ) It's as if her school is her main identity and proof that she's "elite"
Pero kaya I posted din kasi baka nga iba na generation ngayon, those born in the 2000s. Sa reddit kasi dami rin complaints about school discrimination when dating. Iba kasi ngayon may internet na anonymous and a lot of thoughts are voiced out na dati hindi pinaguusapan

July 16th, 2022 09:59 AM #1263Sis, there were a few na pag dating sa college/Uni, they wouldn't talk or make firends from so called "lower schools" St. Paul, etc. only yung ka level lang daw (elite) pero minority lang talaga yun.
Observation ko lang most of us eventually wound up marrying folks from the girls school two blocks away in San Juan (haha) aaya ayaw pa daw back in the day haha.
Umasta ka flaunting your new car, expensive watch & clothes with my friends, and you'll really look stupid sa friends ko (parang , ha? What about it) Then tigin ka sa garages nila and what they're wearing hindi nman branded. But alam mo kidnappable sila. Ako nga pinaka poor ata sa amin
Tignan mo nga ako saan ako based, Manila area Tayuman & Bambang... yuk area, pero so what, nandito kami kumikita and may swerte sa business. Yung relatives ko based in Sta. Ana & Binondo, puro mga sibuyas & luya etc mga store fronts nila, but check their ITR's for a year you know they can live and buy anything they want. Pero naka polo shirt & jeans lang. Really well off people don't flaunt.

July 16th, 2022 10:04 AM #1264I don't know nga lang sa lower generations, but I raised my daughter to be down to earth din.
You want something, learn the value of money.
Wag maging matapobre.
Learn to appreciate those who have worked for you, and make sure taken care of sila, we are where we are right now because of their loyalty then, so when they go, make sure naman may reward din for their loyalty. People who work for us stay talaga.
I don't know nga lang with kids nowadays though. Iba na ang world nila with what we had then.

July 16th, 2022 11:24 AM #1265where i studied,
it didn't matter where one lived, how one traveled to school, or what brand one's paraphernalia and clothes were.
what mattered was, "pumasa ba tayo sa exam?"
i loved my classmates. walang down-looking.
buhat bangko mode.
but yes,
it mattered if one had a car.
after all, what can we commandeer to go to tagaytay, if the classmate didn't have no car for us to commandeer...?
heh heh.
many years later,
nagtataka ako bat ang laki laki nang odometer reading nang kotse kong ginagamit nang college student kong anak...
the world turns.

July 16th, 2022 11:51 AM #1266Schools aren't just about academics. Its also a venue for socialization, friendships, basically networking. Good schools attract the best students, and naturally those best students will get acquainted with each other. Mas malakas ang bond ng actual na nagkita, kesa "virtual homies" lang. I mean even yung mga internet groups like car clubs do actual meetups. Like it or not, first thought we usually have when going to transact business, "who in this place went to the same school"?

ganyan din sa mating/courtship
school acts as the screening tool -- to screen for potential mates

sa offices/workplaces ganun din
employees (single) that started working for a company... later on they'll be pairing up
someones are (at last!) loudly asking, "why did they turn off the countdown timers?"
SC (temporarily) stops NCAP
