I was never the model student even though I was one of the student leaders during my time. I never aspired for honors but I think I did very well in the subjects I liked.

Doc is right to point out that it depends on the person. I have seen some people just wasted their talents and skills by being lazy or being associated with the wrong kind of people or just not being pushed enough.

From my experience - environment + connections matters more than school/brains.

Most of my batchmates from Pisay are either doctors, or working so-so jobs here in the Philippines (because science is a joke here in the country), or are abroad either taking up further studies or working in the science fields there. So konti lang yung successful in their 20s. Konti lang din sa kanila yung good communicators and sociable people, traits which are very important to succeed in life but not so much in school.

In comparison, many of my batchmates from Ateneo - either successful in their relatively young corporate career, or may sariling negosyo na. Malakas loob ng marami magnegosyo because they typically start with their parents' connections and puhunan, or minsan derecho manahin nalang whatever their parents' businesses are.

    ... ang daming youtube videos...
but it's gonna prove more diifficult, as there'd be a lot of will power involved.

    i imagine,
the kids probably won't take to it, if the parent don't join in, in the huffin' and puffin'.

Is this for real? If I were a single mom pala, I can't afford to send my child to college on my salary alone That's why I will never choose to be one (unlike my friend hehe)

Its true - not sure about tuition during a pandemic though

    DLSU is about 60-70k a sem x 3 sems

UP has income brackets though with corresponding tuition rates

Its just a fact of life these days

Yup mahal talaga. Ateneo was already 80k per sem during my time. For sure higher now.

Best is to have a kid smart enough or athletic enough to get a scholarship.

Advisable ba Sir Jut na kuha na ng long term investment para kapag mag-aral na ang kids meron na naka-allocate for education?

I think education plans are pretty useless. What I do is invest my money in stocks and ETFs, and from that pool of investments, I値l take out what I need for my future children痴 college education.

If I値l have a kid who値l go to college 20 years from now, assuming Ateneo education will increase by 4% per year while I can invest in something that will earn me 6% per year (i.e. MP2), then I値l need to invest 40k/yr for 20 years, or roughly 3.3k per month for every child I plan to send to Ateneo for college.

Another way to look at it is you値l need to spend an additional 40k/month per kid that you bring into this world if you plan to make them study in the best schools from GS (AGS, XS, Poveda, ICA) until college (Ateneo, DLSU, etc)

Malaking tipid if your kid gets to go to PSHS and UP (or a full scholarship in DLSU/ADMU).

Wala pa diyan yung expenses kapag not from NCR ang family. Partly why I wasn't able to study in UP even though I passed UPCAT was that even if I had 2 scholarships, my parents still wouldn't be able to afford the living expenses + dorm

Does school really matter?
