But everyone around me who landed good jobs right after college never demanded a high salary, it was just offered to them after passing a stringent set of interviews. And none of them are slackers - these people worked their asses off just like all other fresh grads.

I wasn't trying to be condescending or self-aggrandizing, I was just sharing my opinion which goes contrary to the stereotype mentioned here.

Spot on. Stereotypes mentioned here I also do not find to be the general rule. Instead they are the exception.

Only the really rich can afford to go from jobs to jobs without fear of financial ramification.

Big corporations hire those from top schools based on experiences as well. Hindi naman yan gagawin if based on their past experiences eh palpak at hindi worth it.

A typical fresh grad from a decent university will earn an average of 20-25k from their first job. But there are many companies that offer more than double that amount as these companies are willing to hire fresh grads straight into managerial positions.
    i agree.
companies who want only the best, should be willing to pay for 'em.
and employees who work their asses off because that is the only way they know how to work, are worth their weight in gold.

i have another explanation for why grads from tier 2 schools are more in demand

it's simply coz of sheer number

the best and brightest (grads from tier 1 schools) are only willing to work for the biggest companies they won't bother applying at small and medium size companies

but there are far more small and medium size companies than big companies and far more graduates from tier 2 schools than tier 1

so the number of grads from tier 2 schools that apply at small and medium size companies far outnumber tier 1 grads that apply at big companies

Pag hindi mabigay justice eh advice ko sa biktima eh ibulgar nyo picture ng mga lalake involve. Kung may facebook mas maganda. Tingnan ko kung hanggan saan katibay pag usapang emotional.

    whoever said they are geniuses?
they're as ordinary as you and me, but more intelligent as evidenced by their academic record...

Most of us alumni of the PSHS system are not happy with the initial decision of the board of trustees regarding these hoodlums. It caused an uproar of sorts and the borad of trustees reversed their decision.

Some are just ordinary folks, more like sharp-minded folks like me and Jut. However, there are some kids that are really gifted, enough to earn them academic scholarships in top US universities.

I've met a few Pisay grads back in the day, even dated one, and while it's true that they may be above-average, academically speaking, than most, one thing's for sure -- we all share the same human frailties in love and war.

It's good to hear that some sort of justice was served with the Pisay BOT reversing their earlier decision.

    yes,
some students get high grades because they laboriously rake thru the books.
while the great majority of us... we get very little sleep, pouring into our reading material, only to barely pass...
a few, the gifted ones, we do not see them studying at all, and they get the highest grades...
the exceptions are there, but they're clearly the very minority.

and when these institutions are talked about, positively or negatively, the public seems to think that the single-digit minority represents the majority of the population.

Not me, doc. I take time to sleep and also to play some sports. I read ahead and study wisely. I am fine with a passing grade, at least I am not too stressed. Hehehehe

There are those who are really gifted that have a much keener understanding and sharper memory. Even more that some of them are very methodical and they work harder than others. The bad thing are those who know they are gifted but opted to be lazy and just waste their time - wasted talent of sorts.

they are technically the top 150 students (not sure about the actual number now) in the Philippines

I would say +/- since not all parents/children want to work for the government after...

    Back to the students...

They should be required to pay for their school fees...

Tax payer's money was spent for their education + board and lodging (and meals)!

from what i remember, top 240, cut up into different slices or regions of the country...

that would depend on the fine print in the contract they supposedly agreed to, when they signed up.

and i am not sure, if exclusively government service is the required requirement.

The Diliman Campus is the biggest and has 240 slots open each year but they are not mandated to fill up those 240. The satellite campuses each take in 90 students each year but mostly they take in two thirds of that number.

Graduates are mandated to take pure science or applied science courses in college. No required government service is expected from the graduates. Only the military academies have the mandatory government service requirement after graduation.

Does school really matter?
