Strong suits ng UST are Medicine and Archi.
Ateneo naman is business and management and others.
CSB is the best daw when it comes to graphic design and arts.
    DLSU sa business din.
    UP is medicine and others.

    Looks about right.

But what I'm wondering about is the cost of sending one's kid to ust nowadays. Surely the dominicans aren't laggards when it comes to the tuition race.

Isa pang mahal daw ay ang mapua/yuchengco universities. Parang quarter sem na kasi sila or something like that.

Btw, any news if the loyola campus is open to joggers & bikers once again? Nakakamiss din kasi this time of the year i'm usually there because of the annual alumni basketball tournament.

do what you gotta do so you can do what you wanna do

50-60k per sem ang tuition sa UST if that’s what you’re curious about.

The outer oval route is allowed but not the inner (scenic) oval.

UST college used to be really affordable. 7-8k per sem in the late mid-90s.

Kaya one time during the finals of the men’s uaap basketball game of UST vs DLSU, a banner from the green side said: Tuition nyo, Baon lang namin.
Hirit ng ust naman is: Campus nyo, parking lot lang namin.

Parking inside UST is ridiculously expensive though

    More expensive than Greenbelt

And it gets filled up on a normal day

My son really wanted the Intramed course kasi kaso naalangan kami kasi nga sa entrance qualifying system this year, tagilid sa mga gradutes ng from schools sa megacities and PSHS grads. Plan was either AdMU or dito muna sa amin tapos next year na magtake if ever.

Oo nga, 4-peat si Dennis Espino niyan. Then DLSU took over, with occasional FEU championship.

Yeah that was the price range during my time there was lucky that during my 4 years there, sakto sa 4 years nag champion ang UST hehe. Palaging bridesmaid La Salle (then afterwards sila naman sunod sunod). I was there when they unraveled that banner. UST crowd replied by chanting “”Mukhang pera!” Another banner they unraveled was “Pasakay naman sa owner!”

Dati nga, in my time in Diliman in the 90s, chant ng iba against UP eh, “Public School, Public School!”

back to the thread... Does school really matter?

Based on my personal experience. YES. It will get your resume noticed
Madali ka din mapansin ng top management once your inside the company

    i agree.
school matters, because it gets your foot past the door.
but once inside, 'bahala ka na kung gaano ka tatagal sa loob'.

Yeah most people never even get to see that door.

A good education doesn’t assure you success in life, but it does increase your chances significantly.

Another factor is passing the board exams, especially for exams with low passing rates

Its easily the difference of being a lawyer on the first try or never being a lawyer. Same with Medicine, architecture, engineering, accountancy, and others.

Some schools have a passing rate more than double the national average.

Of course, its not necessarily the school, but also the students

a point raised from time to time,

"is the quality of the output (the graduate) good, because the school is good?"
or is it because the student is inherently good?
or is it a combination of both?

Back in the 90s during the start of the nursing boom and there was a high demand for medical professionals especially nurses abroad there was talk of forbidding graduates of state universities, particularly from UP to leave the Philippines. One side argued that the state paid for their education and thus they needed to serve, then sec. Flavier even started the Doctors to the Barrios program. Another side argued back that it was still the student who toiled for his/her degree and thus it was for them to decide how to use/profit from it.

Does school really matter?
