TGP is better because its cheaper. Yun C! kasi mahal yun lang nga makapal at maganda papel. Pwede cguro tanggalin na nila yung f1 supplement para magmura. Tsaka nakakiinis yun maliit na papel ng oris na palagi naka usli. Hirap tuloy magbasa. Sana magka Autocar asean na uli sa national bookstore.

no offense, but top gear is a magazine, not a textbook... it's meant for light reading and entertainment, not to raise your IQ
. in that aspect, i think top gear does a better job than C!
anyway, i don't really get where all this hatred for top gear is coming from. i actually listened to everyone's advice and started buying C! for a while instead of top gear. all i can say is, i found C! extremely boring. some of their articles consist of paragraph after paragraph telling you what the car's displacement is, how many airbags it has, etc. why buy a magazine for that when you can just as easily get the info from the internet? i also noticed how at times the writers seemed to be trying to be covering up for some of the flaws of the car they were reviewing. i find top gear to be a lot more honest because they actually tell you about a car's shortcomings.

Actually, Car and Driver have been accused many times in the past of being an import fanboi esp with Honda/Acura cars during the 90's. Now, it's BMW.
I like Car and Driver because they have longterm tests (in excess of a year) and understand real-world use and not just the track.
Their past reviews of my old Contour/Mondeo have been less forgiving than Top Gear's while it's vice versa with my 06 Sonata. Starting to see a trend here.
They should focus on the American market. Notice I said American market and not American cars. From my view, they give equal time to both imports and domestics although domestics fans would prefer to see more articles skewed to their side.Last edited by Jun aka Pekto; December 17th, 2007 at 11:00 PM.

No offense, but I don't consider reading mags like FHM as entertainment, looking at the pictures inside is entertaining, but not reading their actual content. Which comes out about the same with TGP.
Don't wory boss, I don't hate TGP, I just posted what came to mind when I browsed that particular issue.
Boss GH, buti nalang di ko binili, just saw it at a friend's house.

Ang hirap kasi sa local motoring press medyo obliged ang writers natin magbigay ng positive reviews ng kotse. Kung walang positive review, walang test-drive. A sad state of affairs, really.

December 19th, 2007 11:42 AM #27casual reader here and i say top gear for me (if only because of the 3 for 100 back issues). besides i also won twice already from their post a caption contest
now if they start giving away new cars, only then i'd probably buy their current issues hehehe

December 21st, 2007 03:42 PM #29in my view, if you want excellent pictures accompanied by boring articles written mostly by tito hermoso, then buy C!. just keep in mind that the C! people have not met a vehicle they didn't like. they also find ways to make even the most horrible cars seem palatable whilst intermingling lots of incorrect/outdated info in between. check out their annual buyer's guides (actually a compendium of manufacturer's PR articles) and you'll see what i mean. i almost ran out to buy a ssanyong rodius after reading their guide!
if you don't mind mediocre pics, (really) shallow, amateurish articles, brown nosing editors ("...the refinement of lance gokongwei" - sheesh!) and self aggrandizing staff, then TG is the mag for you. the big positive TG has over C! is that they actually have some very good writers like dinzo tabamo and ulysses ang who have the guts to call a spade a spade and call out the cars they review.
i've been subscribing to motor trend and car & driver for many years and sadly, our local mags don't come close to the technical expertise (their editors and staff members mostly have automotive engineering, design or racing backgrounds), car testing capability and overall competence of these mags. unfortunately, in the philippines, any tom dick or harry off the streets can become a "motoring journalist", never mind if they don't know the difference between oversteer and understeer, or a twist beam rear suspension from a fully independent suspension, or a port fuel injection system from a direct fuel injection system.

i think top gear magazine is quite similar to the top gear show. they're both full of stunts and gimmicks and other crazy stuff that sometimes is only vaguely related to motoring. C! on the other hand, is a lot like fifth gear. it takes cars a lot more seriously.
so i guess it's a matter of preference. if you want a serious magazine, buy C!, but if you're after (sometimes shallow) entertainment, go for top gear. like i mentioned before, i've personally never seen the point of a magazine that's not meant for entertainment, so it's top gear for me
