    Space. Yes.
Power... That depends... Like I said, I can't find decent reviews of the 1.5 trim... If this was the 2.0 then I wouldn't have 2nd thoughts ... I've drove the 1.3 City and that was really lacking in power for me... I don't know how much of a difference a 1.5 will be... Any 1.5 M3 owners out there?

The 1.5 Mazda 3 is just like driving a Vios 1.5 or a slower Jazz.

Of course the Mazda 3 owners here will assure you that it's fine, and if your only concern is if you can climb up Baguio, then definitely the Mazda can do that even with a full load. Heck, even a Wigo can do that.

The difference is that compared to more powerful cars, the Mazda needs to be revved harder to generate the necessary power to climb steep uphills. Again, no different from other subcompacts.

But compared to even the Altis 1.6, the 1.5 Mazda 3 has much less low-end torque. You'll need to rev upwards of 3000 rpm to get good acceleration with a full load.

At the end of the day, it has 30 less horsepower than the 1.8 Civic. That's more than the difference between the 1.6 and 2.0 Altis. That's almost equal to the difference between the 1.8 and 1.5 Turbo Civic.

PS. I'm sure the words OVT will come out at some point with your discussion with the Mazda 3 lovers here. 😂

That kinda sounds negative hehe I wish they didn't overlap the engine of the M2 and M3... M2 got great reviews on the 1.5

That's because the Mazda 2 weighs 200 kg less. That's the weight of 3 people. So think of the Mazda 3 1.5 as a Mazda 2 with 4 passengers even if it's really just you on board.

There won't be many 1.5 M3 reviews as it's only offered in limited markets....none in NA. You can probably find old 1s from 3years back.
I can only share you my journey.
I'm not one to buy based on badges. I let happiness & need dictate more than resale as I tinker & grind most of mine to the ground.
Went thru various badges.... Ford, Honda, Mitsu Nissan, Chevy...& yes, Toyota...still got 2 trusty 20yr olds I retired ftom daily chores....both, I'm keeping.
Worsening traffic added more stress to my already taxing daily road time. Twas time to switch from stick to an auto beater...This was 3yrs back.
Candidates were the current Jazz, the previous Yaris & Civic, the Focus....& the 3s.
Tested all & kept coming back to the latter, the 2.0 & 1.5. Repeatedly tested em to kill my doubts & infatuation. I landed my FIRST Mazda.....a 1.5Hatch.
Why? Skyactiv everything. Rev happy, no pricey iStop batts & no ticking time bomb rubber band CVT. Awesome drive dynamics. Enough for my beater requirements......twas a big bonus that I dug the minimalist styling....& it's simple enough to tinker.
Remorse? Sorry, to disappoint......not an ounce. 3years in & it still feels like day1....still dig the gracefully aging styling.
Reliability? Might be too early to say, but this has been a blessed & tantrum-free ownership so far.....Spirited runs I've had many....part of both work & life. This 3 has crossed seas, seen many scenic routes up the Visayan mountains & provincial straights. Is the 1.5 adequate? Let's say I never longed for the 2.0 I tested.

Numbers speak volumes for stats...Happiness is another story. Something numbers can't define.
How happy? When the need & opportunity came for another car, we grabbed an M2 hatch. Yes, got the 3 a lil brother....enough said.
Consider yourself lucky....never had what you have now....access to those that validate expert reviews..... long term Mown3rship reviews.
Good luck in your search. Follow your heart...that's where happiness lingers.

Wow , someones been eating too much Ampalaya 😂 . The reason Mazda owners get Mazdas was the choices at that time, comparing 1.8 and turbo charged engines to a 1.5 ? That is soooooo dumb . 2014 ano kalaban ng Mazda ....... a civic that had an old engine with ugly looks , and the Altis , haaaaaayyyyyyyyy 2 generations old engine with a cvt and what was the asking price again for the Altis ? Hahahaahahahaahahahaah . Mga tanga lang bumili . Old car old engine old boring tech and radio
,ugly speakers for what resale ? BTW the Mazda lost to the new civic 1.5T in the US but it was still a close fight ......wait brand new model beat a car which was 3 years old and only by a bit, to top it all off The mazda beat the civic in handling and the only down side of the mazda is because walang apple car play and android auto . The civic look cool but sadly it was not there 2014 .Toyota only now are selling cars that are worth their asking price abroad............Except for the Altis.

Couldn't really care less if you call me bitter.

Not bashing the Mazda 3 1.5, just saying its engine is nowhere as good as the Altis 1.6 or the Civic 1.8. Yep, both the 1ZR-FE and R18 are older than the Mazda's 1.5L Skyactiv engine, but both are better from my experience driving all three.

The Mazda 3 1.5 has awesome handling, complete features, cramped space for a compact, and a weak engine compared to its contemporaries. The stock rims are hideous but changing to the 18s from the 2.0 changes that.

That has always been my assessment of the Mazda 3 1.5 since the day I first drove it. I have also always maintained that the 2.0R is a better package overall, even if it costs more. If you think I'm hating on the Mazda 3, you're obviously barking up the wrong tree.

Between your post and mine, which one is more objective and less like a bitter basher?

    Thanks, sir....
Info help comes in many forms...General ideas, 1st impressions, 2nd hand knowledge....We all learn from em....
I prefer to share from ownership, sir, but I'm not one who'd heap praises just because I happen to have em....Tinkering has been an inherited passion that forces senses to see beyond what most would or can't appreciate.
Please keep us posted on what you'll be going for.

Whhhhhhaaaaaattttt me not objective ........ahem ive owned all the cars you have mentioned, and the only one i really respect is the Honda , i have had the gli corolla , then the altis too , and compared to all others , Toyota is the biggest scammers of them all 2.0 altis 1.3m for what old tech ? My fam loves toyotas , i was just sick and tired of there kool aid . A 2 generation old engine stuck on a modern body with no improvements what so ever!? You can add 1000000000 more gears to the cvt ,but in the end it is still lack luster . The 1.6 was ok with the gli , but when it was transfered to a bigger bodied Altis it became a boat , not to mention the suspension problems it gave me . The civic naman lost it as todays i-vtech isn't even a real v-tech anymore . But hond engines still kick ass though . Why bring tuners in too , are you implying that mazda needs tuners? That is just dumb , the mazda 1.5 is ok already , tuners are for people who want more power . Basically its like Toyota owners dont need or want tuning , that ideology kid is what sunk you . Bringing in tuners in this conversation, btw had no connection with the topic at all. You pretend to know a lot but from what ? Magazine and paper specs . If i took that same train of thought then then i should 100% believe in the rated hp of all cars . Kid put 175 hp rated car on a dyno and i bet my balls its much less.
