January 23rd, 2010 02:05 AM #2751my guess is, it's one of the pulley or idler bearings. you'll have to bring down the pulley and replace the bearing. it's really not that hard, especially if you have double jointed arms (heh heh), but your hands will be dirtied. i tried before to just squirt lubricant into it as a quickfix, but it lasted only a few weeks. replacing it is a better move.
and i hope the pulley in question is one of the easier ones to access.

gud am po mga bossing
,
need your analysis on this, everytime i start the engine usually in the morning,i noticed na mababa ung idle ,mga around 500-700 ang rpm ng engine,,parang kuliglig ang tunog,,then cguro mga 1-2 mins aakyat na siya to mga 900 rpm,,pero parang ganun pa rin (tsug, tsug tsug ang tunog),so what i do is i reved the engine pushing it up to about 2k rpm tpos yun mag normalize na yung idle,,then if i switched on the A/C, ganun na naman, bumababa ang rpm then it goes back to 1k rpm after about 5-10 secs.pina check(calibrated) ko na ung injection pump at mga nozzle tip, ok naman daw.kapapalit ko lang din ng fuel filter last november'09.napansin ko rin na bumababa rin ang rpm kapag iniikot ko ung steering wheel usually kapag ilalabas ko na ng bahay..wala namang akong napansin na kapag 2matakbo na,ok na siya, pero pag start ko ulit after mga 1 hr,the same situation,I wonder if this is normal to diesel engines(mine is sedona'02 LS M/T),but i guess its not...please help naman mga bossing.TIA

January 23rd, 2010 09:02 PM #2753The manual only shows owner serviceable parts. However by observation, the 10A fuse supplies power to the main relay that in turn powers the folowing relays, abs(normally on while engine is running), accessories, cabin lights if door is open, grid heater (few seconds from start to kick-in), fans, etc. Largely just the relays of the above. Each relay in turn has their own fuses drawing from main or accessories. I had diagrams with my previous cars but these are supplied by Haynes not the owner's manuals.

January 23rd, 2010 09:09 PM #2754I had a similar problem before. It took me so long to diagnose. Later on i found out, our main pulley is the resilient mount type, meaning, there is a rubber flexible layer between the outer and the inner pulley. The purpose is to minimize vibration harmonics and prolong the life of the main bearing. i ended up replacing my main pulley at 60,000Km. A similar noise came out on my car at 70,000Km, this time it was the alternator bearing. This one i prolonged the rplacement (my fault). I ended up the pulley separated from the alternator shaft...i went home, no power from slex to UP ha ha ha. ending? replaced my alternator assembly.

January 28th, 2010 04:46 PM #2755Hello.I would like to ask around for recommended and trusted mechanics who are familiar with the suspension of the Carnival. I suspect ball joints or tie-rod ends to be the problem but I am not sure. I live in QC so I would like to go to a shop in the area. I have read a post about a shop called Speedyfix but I am not sure where it is. OK ba dito? Thanks in advance.

ecport,
Kaya ng cruven ang suspension ng carnival. Nakapag-pagawa na ako don. Nandun kasi palagi si claro, ung mayari kaya dun ako nagpapacheck ng suspension ng mga kotse namin.
nanotech,
I had a similar problem like you on my previous carnival!

Thanks benchph1, can you give me the contact details and address of cruven? I hope it is located in QC only. I brought the van to Banawe at Itchicars(can't remember the spelling), supposedly a shop that specializes in Power steering repairs. They couldn't find anything wrong so I suspect it's the ball joints or tie rod ends. Appreciate your help by sending me the contact details.

February 2nd, 2010 02:55 PM #2758I went to Cruven yesterday and brought my Kia Carnival. Service and reception was good. The person I spoke to was Chito who manages the branch. He explained to me what wrong with the van and fixed my ride. It wasn't the ball joints or tie rod ends but only an adjustment on the steering coupler. It's a a universal joint that connects the steering column to the power steering mechanism.
Service was quick and straightforward and the people were friendly. Reasonable price and quick service. I will bring my other rides there in the future. Thank you benchph1!
Address is #44, 4th Avenue, QC or you can google Cruven and check out a branch near you.

February 4th, 2010 03:41 AM #2759I had my reservations bringing my car to an electrical shop. Medyo paranoid ako sa mga re-wire approach nila. To me rewiring is a "no-brainer". I wish we can have analytical electricians. So what i did was to trace where my 10A fuse leads. Earlier i knew it powers several relays and had to find out what other gadgets get 12V from this 10A fuse. I found out that the supply to the wastegate vacuum valve wire was dangling and bare copper intermitently touched the exhaust manifold shield. This harness has been damaged by several mechanics who do not know to press the release pin in a socket so they cut off the wire or pull it altogether. This time, i lenghthened the wire, trace it to its right function (opening and closing the vacuum line and operate the waste gate). Haay salamat, it did the job, i bought 6" worth of black flexible split pvc conduit shield, solderred the previous cuts and fused some shrink tube to the line...I just can't let go of my Sedona, its comfortable and spacious. Much of our Kia problems in the past i guess we can blame on poor preventive warnings from official Kia dealers. They should'nt just do the regular preventive checkups but learn from their own service database and progress to anticipate the woes of other users who might just meet the same fate like...alternator bearing breaks, main pulley dissengages, oil pump chain etc...)

February 4th, 2010 11:39 AM #2760Resale value of Carnival. Am thinking of selling my 2001 (january 2001) Carnival with about 120K Kms. Would any of you have an idea of its resale value? It has the stock radio/CD, sidesteps, captain seats and a third row. I hardly use it anymore but is well maintained. I would like to get your opinion on its market value. When I decide to sell it, I will post in the right section.
Thanks.
