December 6th, 2009 11:13 PM #2711i only use motolite 3sm in my kia carnival and never had any low power or discharge problem.. i even have an amplifier installed and high wattage head lamps (100/90) and fog lights (100watts each 2x)
most common cause could be the main wire from your alternator to your battery.. we had a kia besta before that has discharge problem only to find out that it was caused by loose diode soldering from the alternator and corroded alternator terminals, same happened with my kia carnival so i did the same.. problem solved..
you may check if your electrical system is drawing too much power from your battery when OFF by tapping (in series) an ampere meter in the positive terminal..

December 7th, 2009 11:12 AM #2712I agreed with yapoy86. I used to have this discharge problem one time and it destroy the alternator. After replacing it with a surplus alternator and I am using an AC Delco battery. I don't have any problem now. I have one observation with the alternator, the terminal which the main wire is connected make sure it is tighten. Also this terminal has another nut on its side that fasten this terminal to the internal wires and chassis of the alternator. Make sure tighten this from time to time. This nut can get loose from the vibration and will cause loose contact from the IC that charge the battery and that's is. All the problem will come afterward, discharging, defective IC regulator....

December 7th, 2009 04:25 PM #2714hi can someone please help me?
my husband and i had to replace our innova bec flood waters damaged it. we bought a sedona '04 and i love it bec it is such a comfortable ride for my 3 children. but after 2 weeks, i bought it to kia mandaluyong for a tune up to hopefully up it's fuel efficiency--i was only getting 4km to a liter of gasoline.
i bought it first to terry yamat in jp rizal and val yamat said ok naman lahat--and we should try daw getting spark plugs changed and for a tune up. the spark plugs daw could only be bought in kia.
sa kia, pinalitan ang spark plugs (almost a thousand each!), and air filter. and it seemed like the ride became smoother but an hour after leaving the casa, tirik na sha ng tirik! while i had my kids with me! ngiiii- freak out.
so i brought it back. the kia guy taped the ignition coil then we were back in business.
the following day, buti na lang it was just me and the husband, tumirik ang sedona. and this time it would not start! we were infront of a good year auto repair shop so they made kutingting. it started, we left then not even 10 meters, tirik na naman and would not start.
can someone pls tell me what to do. THANK YOU SO MUCH. this thread is so comforting....
so i went back that same day and the kia guy

mga sirs,
ask ko lang kung yung CONTITECH belt na para sa alternator(5PK1592) ay ang brand na design talaga para sa sedona..experienced ko kasi, bakit madali siyang maputol, to think that i seldom used the van.bago pa lang ung belt, almost 1 month pa lang, minsan ko lang gamitin yung van, bigla bigla na lang naputol,at worst pa, im on the middle of the traffic,
, did anyone experienced this, madali maputol ang belt,ok naman ang mga idler bearing, wala problema, naka align naman..mga sirs, ano kaya mga possible causes kung bakit madali maputol ang belt.may titibay pa ba na brand ng belt aside from contitech.TIA...

December 8th, 2009 09:27 PM #2720Hi,
I have a kia sedona 2003 (gasoline v6 engine) with 50k+ mileage. I bought it 5 months ago second hand at kia cebu and just used from office to home and vice versa which is around 10km round trip ride. The van was running fine but when I start the engine this morning I could hear a knocking sound inside the engine. Similar to a pop corn being cooked. The sound gets worst as you step on the accelerator. And the van has no power, after running few meters the engine stops. I had it looked by my neighbor mechanic and he said its the spark plugs but advised me to have it changed by kia since the tools used are different and I went to kia to have someone came over. The kia mechanic agreed that its the spark plugs and replaced it but the problem still occurred. They also checked the coils and the high tension wires, its ok but the problem still there. They checked the air in-take and etc. but the problem is still there. I ended to have the van towed back to my house. Anyone encountered a similar problem? Please advise how to fix the problem and shop recommendation. Thanks.
Are they on track to surpass last year's sales?
