Got a red hatchback today. Drove the same road and traffic condition for 54 kms. that of the honda Jazz 1.3 which gave a 9.8L/100km or 10.2km/L (trip computer). This Rio is giving me 15.4L/100km or 6.5km/L (trip computer). Same route on a starex 2.5 turbo diesel automatic is around 5.5km/L and its a diesel.

Feed backs on 1st drive (impressions):

Positive - Looks, good acceleration, easy to maneuver both parking and on traffic, handling and ride, nice dash layout and lighting, love the wheel, music player can copy up to 760MB of mp3 music from your porta flash drive or porta mp3 player plugged via USB, decent sound after tweaking the Low, mid, high settings, and loads of features (push start- awesome!) and accessories.

Negative - uncomfortable seat (my back aches with lack of lumbar support) thin foam padding but nice head rest, seemingly lack of power during ascending with 3 persons on board, front suspension noise on rough road (expected on 17" 45 series but the Chevy Orlando handles rough road well with no noticeable suspension noise), lack of road feel= less fun to drive but just a bit, only 5k kms between oil change, and if I say so myself, the "taxi" stigma attached especially if you're looking at the front. Doesn't bother me much though, just a thought.

I understand it's new and needs break-in. I'll post update from time to time soon.

That's odd, you should be getting roughly 9 km/L in city driving with your Rio, since that's what 1.4L Accent/Rio 4-door sedan owners get, and weight-wise, the hatchback is even lighter.

Maybe you really just have to break it in first. Usually though, post-break in FC improves only by about 1-1.5 km/L, but try and see if your FC improves drastically.

The oil change interval on the previous model is actually 7.5K km. You can probably extend this to 10K km using Synthetic oil. I've seen a lot of the new models and to me, they look very good when compared to the 2010 "taxi" model.

Driven yesterday, a sunday with no traffic for 30 kms within the city of cagayan de oro with light to no traffic and only stop on traffic lights and slow down on turns and intersections and the fc trip meter = 13.8L/100km. I was hoping I'll get 10 but maybe after break-in it's possible.

Kia dealership says it's every 5000 km between maintenance but on kia's Warranty & maintenance manual, page 7 states 7,500 interval for gasoline. I'll refer this to kia this afternoon for clarification.

I was asking my SA in Kia Pasig (he's now in Kia Metro East) to change the oil at 5K but he suggested to just follow what the manual specifies.

I solved the front suspension noise yesterday with a quick check on the tire pressure. Just as I suspected, the tires were overinflated by almost twice its recommended pressure. The fronts were inflated to 57 psi, beyond the Continental tire's maximum limit of 51! The rear were inflated to 52 psi! No wonder the car rides like a horse cart since Friday's delivery! I brought it down to 35 psi cold (front & rear), higher by 3 psi on the recommended factory tire settings found on the door sill (sticker on driver's side) for a 17" 45 series tires with 5 passengers. This after checking the sidewall is a bit rounded on the ground contact area at 32 psi bare, no load. How the local Kia dealership failed to see this abnormal tire pressure during their SOP quality control on the unit prior to releasing is beyond me.

    New Feedback:
    - The ride improvement after tire pressure correction is night and day. Still thirsty though but I just learned that it sipped fuel like there's no tomorrow during stop and idle. City leisure drive on a straight run at between 40-60 kms/hr on pure A/T registers an average of 9.8-10.2L/100km (Instant fuel consumption gauge on the trip computer). It deteriorate fast if you come into stop during traffic or waiting for the traffic light, affecting greatly the average fuel consumption. Diesel engines don't consume much on idle, at least to my observation with both the Starex and Pajero.
    - The head unit copies mp3 files from the Porta mp3 player and from plugged in USB quickly, in just a few seconds but it appears it wont copy folders and the songs you downloaded to the head unit were all lump up together. The sound of the speakers are a bit bright and lack both mid and lower bass. Sound stage is good but detail and separation definitely needs improvement.
    - The front fog lights are both projector type and compliments well the low beam projector and the DRL. Cool!
    - Rear strip LED park lens and bright LED brake lights looked similar to concept cars. Cool!
