I totally agree that a driver will play a key role in determining the performance of a vehicle. Specially if you are driving a manual vehicle. I also would like to point out that going up via Kennon is much harder than via Marcos highway. Kennon is practically 2 lanes only while marcos highway is 3 sometimes 4 lanes. the grade in kennon is much steeper than Marcos highway the roads in kennon is also of poor quality compared to Marcos Highway. and in Kennon, the visible stretch is normally only about 150 meters. So you have to accelerate much faster or else you will be overtaking in a blindspot which is very dangerous. The event that I describe happened only this April 2007. We were on our way to Mt. Data which is 100kms farther from baguio along the Halshema highway.
Anyway Im not asking you to take my word for it. It was just a first hand experience of mine. Im quite sure that I am not only one who have seen a crosswind having problems going uphill in a winding road in a convoy. Good luck on you crosswind purchase.
I can say a first hand experience kung ikaw mismo nag-drive ng crosswind. And I think AT tranny yung crosswind na yun! Depende talaga yan sa driver kasi may nabasa akong thread dito na he overtook several fortuners using his crosswind on the way up to Baguio!

but am sure mas mababa ung price nya. i've already mentioned the difference of XT with XTi above.
as for the radiator problem, like what niky has mentioned, na ayos na. un nalang tlgang maugong na makina ang mapapansin. but if you're used to diesel, tolerable naman.

    good luck sa purchase!

Thank you very much sa info. MACpod and niky. Peace!

i also had alot of inquiries re:crosswind. you can search for my previous threads. thing is majority puro negative ang remarks (i bet you even read some of the responses here aswell).

but still i went for it bec of it's proven fuel efficiency+tibay ng makina. yes the third row seats are already front facing, so that's another factor.
ride has improved bec of its leaf springs din. as for speed, since regalo ko nman ito sa parents ko, di nman nila kelangan makipagovertake palagi. moderate speed lang palagi sila. when i asked them about it, they were very complacent sa performance. so that makes me very happy and satisfied.

good luck sa car hunting mo.

Sir, maraming salamat po sa info. Laking tulong talaga mga info na makukuha dito sa thread ba to. Thanks again guys..

Reading the last page naalala ko yung Baguio experience with my XUVI(ako mismo nag dadrive).

Thanks sir, that gave me some confidence kasi di pa ako nakakapag-drive ng diesel paakyat ng Baguio. And alam ko nga din basta diesel di ka ibibitin sa akyatan, wag lang siguro overloaded!

5 sir, kami ni misis,2 bata and yaya. And of course yung mga gamit.

Check that the hinges are still in shape, like Syuryuken says... Open the door and see if it sags in the open position.

Sa Crosswind namin, medyo bumababa na ng kaunti (110,000 kms, 3 years)... sa Hilander, walang wala na sa alignment (140,000 kms, 8 years).

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Assuming not much traffic going up, the xto,xt, xti, xl (dunno about the xuv's though w/ its larger tires) can go up Baguio at 50-60kph at 3rd gear consistently. Medyo maingay lang talga since you'll be revving the engine to 3000rpm. If you're slowed down by trucks travelling at 20-25kph, the technique is to down shift to 2nd gear, rev past 3000 rpm (around 3500-4000 rpm) to accelerate quickly up to 40-45 kph to pass those trucks. At kung mabibitin ka, the trick is to "pump" the gas pedal - let go of the pedal momentarily then press it again, and you'll get an extra boost going up. The only vehicles that could beat me when I going up baguio were sedans who had one or two passengers and the 3.0L diesel engined Toyota hilux, and the 2.9L intercooler turbo carnival and starex.

    agree ako kay rsnald.

Diskarte lang talaga yan. First time na nasubukan kong mabitin yung 2nd gear*2000 rpm tapos change gear sa 3rd may tatlong kaban na bigas ang dala ko tapos tatlong pasahero so ginawa ko balik sa 2nd gear pinalagpas ko muna ng 3000 rpm then 3rd gear ayos nahabol ko pa yung mga nauna sa aking apat na sasakyan pero iniwan ako ng field master
