Hi to all Tsikoteers! glad to see this thread. Alterra is one of the choices when the right time comes to get an SUV. The other two are Fortuner & Montero. I haven't tried driving any of the three yet. Gusto ko kasi kukuha na'ko pag nag drive test ako...hehehe! Sa ngayon, leading ang Alterra for me, based sa mga reviews ko.

Haven't had any experience on a Montero kaya wala akong input dun. Pero sa alterra at fortuner, madalas ko naddrive yung dalawa na yan and talagang di mo ipagpapalit ang Alterra.

hi guys!!! this is my first post here but i'm an avid reader. just want to thank you all for all the infos you posted on this thread kasi it really helped us when we bought our "terry" last 2008. first car ng family ko yun so it was such a big deal. when we bought our terry my dad was working out of the country so kami ng mom ko talaga ang nag-asikaso to get our it.actually, ang first choice ng dad ko is the crosswind..he's the type pa naman pag naka-pili na eh there's no turning back sa kanya...so when my mom's best friend suggested the alterra and we checked it out na-convince namin ang dad ko..we never had a problem regarding comparing our terry to the other suv kasi my dad don't like fortuner kasi matagtag daw and sa pangit daw ang reputation ng fortuner sa country pinagtratrabahuan nya..everest naman kasi lakas ng fc nya and di nya type ang porma nung car.. when we bought terry, the new monterro was not yet out of the market. medyo ka-sad lang kasi when we got terry, hindi si papa or ako ang unang naka-drive sa kanya kasi nga my dad was working abroad and me naman di pa gaano marunong mag-drive. it was the husband of my mom's best friend who first drove it..sabi nya swabe daw and very comfortable..he drives a crosswind and a civic pa naman.

it's almost 2 years since we got terry and we are very happy.. up to now, i still cant believe na i'm driving terry..never imagine na makakapag-drive ako in general. hahaha! whenever my dad is away for work, i'm the one in charge kay terry...pag ako ang may dala nakaka 10km/l+ si terry pero pag dad ko na eh bumababa coz my dad is a maniac in the road. haha! my parents love terry so much na minsan na nagseselos ako. hahaha! everytime my dad comes home daming pasalubong sa kanya..biro nga namin ng mom ko eh kaya sya excited umuwi eh dahil lang kay terry and hindi sa amin..hahaha! my mom naman eh super alaga si terry, as in minsan sya na ang nagpapaligo nito..actually bonding moment namin ang pagpapaligo kay terry!

alagang casa si terry kaya for sure in good condition sya...kaka-10,000 km pa lang nya this december. the fastest speed na nadrive ko kay terry is 140 kph...for a girl like me, super fast na yun kaso hanggang dun ko na lang hinatak kasi i'm with the whole family including my dad. safety first diba pero i broke my previous record sa trip na yun..hehe!

here's what i love kay terry:

• reverse camera (tama ba tawag) - this is a great help talaga! alterra lang ba ang may ganitong feature? fortuner, everest & monterro meron ba?
• audio/video system - everytime na dadating ako sa village namin alam na ng neighbors na ako yun kasi super lakas ko magpatutog..haha!
• FC - do i need to say more..hehe!
• aircon system - kahit tirik na tirik na ang araw never kaming nainitan kahit naka 1 lang sya.
• space and comfort - the seats are okay with us..di matigas di din malambot..tama lang! in fact, whenever we go out of town, the 3rd row seat is like a room ng sister ko..dun talaga sya natutulog..as in nakahiga with unan and kumot pa..ayaw lang nya pag ang lakas ng tugtog ko kasi di daw sya nakakatulog. haha! btw, my sister is in her mid 20s na.

encountered problem

• right window (2nd door) - according sa casa may something na nag-loosen up daw sa loob ng door kaya everytime ibaba naman yung window na tumutunog..pero okay na now.

question lang po sa inyo:

• i read somewhere here na isa sa add-ons ng alterra is yung crossrail. ano yun? sorry lately lang talaga ako nahilig sa car...it started when we bought terry.
• front fog light indicator - sabi sa casa talagang wala daw pero as far as i remember, nung bago pa si terry eh meron sya talaga and i read it on the manual.. yung alterra nyo ba eh umiilaw pa din yung front fog light indicator nyo sa dashboard..below lang sya nung fuel indicator or something...

The crossrails are the black bars you see on the roof of this alterra:



They are standards to alterra before.... i'm not sure now.

There should be a foglamp indicator. Same goes for the rear foglamps. Have your gauges checked. Might be a case of busted bulb....

Ako din bumaba ang fuel comsumption ko.. Pero hindi ko pa na-encounter ung RPM mo na hanggang 1.5k lang..

Mga Reasons:

1. Distance traveled..(Kapag malapitan mas makunsumo).
2. Long Idling.. As in yung matagalan.. (30-1hour)..
3. Driving Style..

Solution dito is to travel long distance like more than a hundred kilometers straight para makita mo kung may pagbabago sa fuel comsumption mo.

Minsan nga umabot pa Fuel comsumption ko ng 6.4 eh dahil sa style ng paggamit kay Terry.. Short Distance lang tapos Idle for like more than an hour then lipat ng puwesto like 2km lang tapos Idle na naman ng matagal.. Hehe..

Grabe ang Terry nyo.. 10kms palang ang natatakbo.. Sobrang Alaga ata.. ^_^

Si terry ko nabili last July 2008 at ang Odo reading nya na ngaun is already 42,000kms.. Mostly Long Distance.. Pero astig pa din until now..

Guys, always keep in mind that a vehicle is more "stressed" despite low mileage pero dahil laging in traffic than a car that runs long distances pero tumatakbo.

... one more thing, mas nasisira ang isang otong di ginagamit. HATAW NA!!!

wala talaga? bakit meron kasing idicator thingy dun sa dashboard.. and parang nasa manual sya...parang lang naman tagal ko na kasing di nabubuklat yung manual eh.

yes kaka 10km pa lang nya last december...kahit gusto ko gamitin yung car since di naman sa akin eh di wait na lang..pero since sinabi nyo na dapat gamitin as much as possible..i'll inform my mom about it. problem kasi pag pinapasyal namin si terry, napapa-gastos or napapa-shopping kami ng wala sa oras eh..hahaha!

I just checked and confirmed that there is NO indicator to determine if the front foglamps are turned ON or OFF. Only the REAR FOGLAMPS has an indicator at the gauge panel. (see illustration below)
