Thanks crosswind & 2gbuser for your inputs.

Sa Mitsubishi kasi when I got my Monty last year I was never advised to have it rust proofed. I will find out if that was the right decision next month on its 1st yr check up (rustproof warranty)

    Regarding rust proofing :

Spent my time on the assembly lines of a Japanese assembler here as process engineer for Paint and Corrosion resistance..

When they assemble your car your, it gets the needed rust proofing built in.

    1. During the zero rust dipping process, the E-coat bonds to the metal here and provides the 1st layer of protection.
    2. During the sealing process...here sealers that act as sealing agents are applied to the nooks and crannies that prevents water leaks and corrosion protection. It is also here that sealant is sprayed on the under body , wheel wells and bottoms to prevent another round of corrosion protection...This is stuff is the toughest protection you can get at this is oven baked to extreme temperatures until rock hard, and I mean rock hard....
    3. During painting , the wheel wells are also painted to match the body, hence another layer of protection.
    4. Long term wax sprays... done by local folks like SAVI, they apply thick wax/protection on door crevices, rubber to metal components like weather strips and some times on the underside (optional). If youo managed to open your door sidings and look at the bottom edge where water drains out, you'll see and orange gunk thing..thats the wax....one application lasts a lifetime.

So you see, the one that you apply outside, the aftermarket sprays, they are kinda redundant, feel good sprays. Yep it will add protection, but not nearly as tough as the sealant sprays, why? because these are all air dry sprays, it does bond to the surface and is hard when dry, but not nearly as tough as the factory stuff.

should you avail of one? If you got the extra moolah ...sure why not....

Do I avail of one? Nope.... with only one exception. If I always dip or contact my ride into sea water.... then thats the time to get extra protection.... BUt that would have to be like weekly contact with sea water.

^nice read sir petiks.. But we are not blaming those marketing people to have your car rust proof, they're running business. As i may say so, i never had one rust proof when i stepped of the dealership on day one.

May mga nababasa kasi ako na may option to turn it on/off. Kaya na-curious ako kung meron din ang mu-x. I don't have the owners manual as of the moment kaya ako nagtanong dito sa tsikot.

Why would I turn it off? Kung may option to turn it on/off, possibly may good reason kung bakit. Thanks!

    Re: rustproofing

My classmate from college lived in Malabon close to the sea. Her family did not own a car, only a stainless jeep, because of the corrosive effect of seawater.

Same with out SA, I asked kung free ba rustproofing ng mu-X, she said no need na because their cars are rustproofed already before leaving the factory.

You can turn if off anytime you want. The switch button is located at the dashboard below the tachometer or at the left side of steering column, ang sa opposite side naman ay switch button ng dual aircon para sa likod. It will automatically activated everytime you starts the engine. Tama yong sinasabi sa FAQ link as explained pareho ng nasa owners mannual.
