I got my Starex back this afternoon from its 40,000 km PMS, and my total bill was only P12,500 instead of the P15,000 that was quoted earlier. This is because some items such as A/T fluid weren't applicable for my ride, and also since the casa gave a 10 percent discount on parts and 5 percent discount on labor.
The most expensive items were the following (undiscounted prices):
- fuel filter P2,470
- differential fluid P1,380
- drive belt P3,080
Anyway, the ride seems to have improved after the PMS.
BTW, could someone please ask the casa how the passage of the Biofuels Act will affect Hyundai CRDI owners? I forgot to ask earlier, and I was just wondering if the warranty covers potential problems related to the use of biodiesel in the newer engines.

May 18th, 2007 08:48 AM #1102I may have found the source of vibration. I transferred my rear tires to the front; so did the vibrations when braking from 60 kph - up (which became even stronger). Problem is, I had all the wheels balanced/aligned before, twice even.

I don't think the 1% biodiesel (B1) will be problem for our CRDi engines. I think, by default, they can handle up to 5% biodiesel content without having to make any modifications. But it would be better, CVT, if you could confirm this with Hyundai.
Come to think of it, we don't have a choice anyhow, coz all diesel fuel has, since May 6, contained 1% biodiesel.

The door linkage is a weak point on early Starex models. Fixing it involves replacement of the external or internal door handle. I thought they have addressed this problem by now. By any chance, did you check if the child safety lock is in the unlocked position?
If the door handle is damaged, it could also be the cause of the rattle.
Another possible rattle source is a mis-aligned door. On my old Besta I realigned it by fooling around with the metal bar that connects the sliding door with the upper slide rail found inside the vehicle.

about the biodiesel...
how true is the rumor that we need to change the fuel filter much earlier than the 5,000 KM cycle? the apparent reason is that biodiesel has solvent properties and it would free up the gunk previously collected inside the fuel filter and eventually this gunk would end up inside the engine.
if this is true, what is now the recommended replacement cycle for the fuel filters, every 1,000 KM or 2,500 KM kaya? we need to clarify this from the casa. hindi biro ang cost ng isang fuel filter (2,470 pesos for the CRDi).
but if this is untrue and the 5,000 KM is still valid...then, wheww, nakahinga na ako ng maluwag.
No, but it was what sounded closest to Bill, bill. Ha ha ha!
