So, were you able to have the camber rectified?

    How did it go?

I read about your idler bearing problem. Personally, that should have been included in the warranty. Did you contest it? Based on experience, car dealers are quite selective on whether a part is warranted or not. Our Innova's front shock absorber for example, was not covered by the warranty because per Toyota, it is a 'moving part.' Our CRV's A/C switch on the other hand was replaced by Honda for free even if the life of the car exceeded the warranty coverage period by 3 months.

Here's the 5-year "America's Best Warranty" picked from the Hyundai America website which also has certain "limits" on the coverage.

    5 YEAR / 60,000 MILES
    NEW VEHICLE LIMITED WARRANTY

Covers nearly every new vehicle component
Covers repair or replacement of any component manufactured or originally installed by Hyundai that is defective in material or factory workmanship, under normal use and maintenance.

Gud am, I'm a newbie sa forum but not exactly new when it comes to the starex. I bought my 2nd '99 starex a few months back. The first one I already sold 2 years before. I've no problems with the engine which apparently is in very good condition. The aircon's very good also, I just had a few things checked. Honestly, I don't know any 2nd hand sedan or even old luxury cars like the accord or galant that could top the a/c of the starex. Since it is a 2nd hand car, I had everything checked including the brakes which turned out to be in poor condition. I had both discs & drums rephased and all pads replaced. After that came my problem, which still exists to date. The problem is the vibration I feel at the rear everytime I step on the brakes at 70 kph - above speed. Before I decided to have it checked by Hyundai cars Manila Bay, I already had the following:

1st) the tires aligned & cambered
2nd) replaced, as in REPLACED ALL the brake discs and brake drums including the incidental parts replaced (it's really not that expensive if you compare those parts with other vehicles). And the brake lines (if you call it that) bled (to get rid of air?) everytime they did something on the brakes.

Hyundai * Manila Bay suggested (after dismantling the front & rear tire protions) that I have the (3rd) front (forgot the exact term) bearing at the front changed and hinted that I (4th) change the transmission & engine supports which I did. The transmission support including the labor was quite expensive. (5th) I also replaced all shock absorbers. They also recommended having the rear tires realigned (again) which I did again. The only advice I didn't follow was to have the brake drums checked since they were brand new. I also had the rear axle bearing checked (not the casa people) which, they said, was still ok. The people at Zafra just shaked their heads since they couldn't say what else could be wrong after all the repairs/parts i've done/changed and after they checked the vehicle itself. However, the vibration has significantly reduced after all those repairs/replacements but it still annoys me.

This week I plan to have the rear wheels placed at front to check if the front wheels would react the same way when placed at the rear. I also plan to have the rear axle bearing (which is more expensive than their front counterparts) checked again. So, what do you think guys? Spending more money on the vehicle is a problem but I'd rather be running safe than sorry. The farthest I've gone so far is Nasugbu, Batangas (repeatedly these past few weeks cause it's summer). That vibration problem (when braking) is keeping me away from a Baguio trip and even an Isabela trip that goes through the mountains of Nueva Vizcaya. I'll appreciate any inputs/suggestion on what to check or do.

    Thanks

ive never encounterd a problem like that in my starex.. try pulling your handbrake while your moving and see if it has the same problems, i mean the vibrations..i guess it has to be in the brake assembly if the vibrations only occur when you brake..... well keep us posted on what results you come up with..

    sa mga naka CRDi po,

madalas po ba kayo bumalik sa casa para ipaayos mga minor or major problem ng mga starex niyo? or paminsan-minsan lang?

    numbah5,

I got a CRDI Starex in June 2006. So far I've been to the casa twice to have problems corrected.

First, to replace a stabilizer link that got busted and was causing a clunking sound when I was on rough roads (replaced under warranty).

Second, to replace an idler bearing that caused the engine to emit a strange noise, like the van was in reverse. Not covered by warranty as Hyundai Dagupan claimed it was a "moving part," hence subject to normal wear and tear.

Anyway, I'm at 40,000 km right now and nothing else has bogged down or broken... except my wallet maybe. Mahal pala magpa-40,000 km PMS, 15,000 pesos ang quote sa akin ng casa dito... or 19,000 pesos, if you include the optional aircon cleaning, which I won't

Ganun talaga ang casa... I sort of remember paying around that much when we brought our Crosswind in for the last major checkup before we finally realized that it was at least 20,000 kms out of warranty...

Part of that cost is the large labor surcharge of the casa, part is due to the amount fluids, filters and belts to be changed.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

    Anytime!

To answer numbah5's query...Minor problems were:

Misaligned steering wheel/camber correction straight out of the showroom. Corrected under Warranty
Clunking sound in front suspension when I go over humps. Repaired under warranty.
Seatback food tray spring destroyed. Replaced under warranty
Rear window washer not working. Repaired under warranty
Adjustment of rear door (couldn't shut in one go). Adjusted under warranty

I'm nearing 20,000 kms in my odometer, so far, no other problems...

    HTH
