I used to own a 1.3 vios m/t. Sa power and acceleration side, ok na ok cya... Matipid pa at easy to maintain. I sold it because I need a safer car. A car to drive through mildly flooded streets. Meron din akong kia and Hyundai. Ang dami sira talaga in less than 3 yrs. One year lang warranty dati...

Oh my...i was a Toyota Boy (Corolla SL/SR, Corona 2-door, Crown, Camry) since the 70's, I've also been a Honda Boy from the CVCC's, CITY, CIVICS till the FD models (modesty aside, aside from other brands wc i don't anymore believe is appropriate to mention in this forum). I tell you, and to all those who may be on this thread that not even these Japanese brands can claim superiority over the newer "Kimchi" cars wc I love to call them.

I now own one of this perky Hyundai HB a/t (40k++kms to date) and sorry to disappoint you but i'm well satisfied with this Korean "KIMCHI" sub-compact (wc I never thought I'd ever consider buying until I test drove one)...even their after sales service is great. This little "Kimchi" car is still performing well and no differnt from the Japs. If I may add...without belittling our HONDA FD 1.8, (wc is also a great car), the little "kimchi" car handles road imperfections better, and sorry to say, has better acceleration than our FD.

Anyway, this is just my first-hand and humble observations having been a licensed driver since the time that drag racing was still done along Makati Ave. during Friday nights....yes, along Makati Ave.

Btw, I always follow the regular PMS that each of our cars required.☺️

He's got a point. Forget the facts and experiences. Its about perception and offering more. Korean brands dont suffer frpm quality issues, it is the perceived quality issues from non believers.

If any of you are true car lovers, you wouldn't limit yourself to any brand, or buy a car because it is a safe choice. You buy a car because of the fun you get out of driving. For me, I like a car that puts a smile on my face every morning when I walk up to it. I like a car that excites me every time I drive it. I like a car I'd look forward to driving on long trips. This is why I didn't get the safest & most boring car. I chose the Hyundai hatch.

Don't get me wrong, I am not loyal to any brand. If the car is worth it based on my research of it, I wouldn't care where it comes from. I wouldn't care about the maintenance cost. As long as I can afford it, I'd get it since I love to drive.

look at it from hyundai's point of view... there's customer perception (like yours) of good quality, PLUS they have guaranteed income from 5 years' continuous patronage from the car owner! because if car owner breaks the pms shackles, his 5 year warranty goes pffft.. the casa doesn't survive because of the number of cars they sell.. they survive because of the number of pms and other maintenance and repair services they give.. this explains the casas' seeming overprice of their services and parts.

why do the japanese brands not offer this 5 year warranty? is it a reflection of the poorer build quality of their cars? just ask the japanese car owner... today. a number of japanese car owners do not even bother to do the 3 year pms with the casa anymore.. they feel the car is so well built, they have nothing to lose.. some of them even feel that no such pms is performed on their cars in the casa anyway (argueable, this)... some think they can have the same pms quality outside the casa, cheaper still, with no long queue.. heck! a number of us celebrate the expiration of the warranty, by taking 'er for an oil change in the neighborhood gas station, at half casa price.

so why does hyundai offer 5 year warranty? it is because they have some marketing catching up to do with their japanese competitors. they have to offer something the competition does not offer. of course, they have to be sure the product can withstand the quality requirement first.. (which is what customer is banking on.).. otherwise it will blow up in their faces.
toyota... does not usually offer promos and other gimmicks.. because they know they are the top dog in the industry. they don't need it.

before a manufacturer offers any deal, it first does a horrendous amount of numbers-crunching, to figure out just how much sales (or losses) it might generate..
then there is the maverick decision maker from nowhere..
and yet... sometimes they win.. sometimes they lose.

this 5 year warranty has been tried out in the US for years now.. i wonder how it went over there..

i used to drive korean. let's keep it at that.

Totally agree.. You naeexcite ka pag nakikita mo. If vios excites you, it's fine. Kung accent, it's also fine. Walang tama o mali sa pagpili. Kanya kanyang attachment.
Mahirap yung pinili mo dahil safe choice. Pero di ka nagagandahan at naeexcite.

Medyo OT: para sa akin mas maganda build quality netong Acceng hatch kaysa sa Gen3 na Vios. Daming issues ng Vios ngayon

"making it up?" i prefer the terms, "digest and commentary".
i was a wide reader... i still am, but scaled down na..
some of those items up there were passed down to me by "a supposedly knowldegeable person in the field". (translation: i read it.)
    other items are... common sense.
still others, i thought i was the only one doing it...but when i discovered the internet, it seemed others were doing it, too, for the same reasons i was.

i used to own a korean.

i do these for the fun of it.
i do something else to put bread on the table.

bottom line... i'm as amateur as they come.

OK, just to set it straight. It is just a COMMENTARY BY AN AMATEUR. Thanks.

I dont get why dr d is getting all the heat when ala naman sya ni insinuate. He just stated common perception. Might be different from fact, but again in business perception and impression are important and different

Case in point, gusto ko din ng hyundai accent hatch. A lot of people actually do, pero ung iba ang reason kung di bibili: low daw ang resale value compared to jap, and reliability issues. Well, connected yang dalawa. Ung isa perceived, ung isa possible fact.

Now i dunnonif both are really true and happening (low nga ba resale??), but definitely nakaka apekto yan right?

So yun lang i guess ang point ni dr d dun sa 5 yr warranty. If they want to sell more, and prove themselves then go to great lengths diba,so longer warranty. Kia in US i heard has 7 years warranty.

Enjoy your ride, you have a great one.

Was about to get Vios gen3 1.3E for my Uber unit.. But ended up getting an Accent CRDi sedan

    Couldn't resist.

Kung features pag uusapan, no doubt panalo yun Vios. Touchscreen HU, dual airbags, ABS/EBD, etc. But after hearing the horrible FC from couple of taxi drivers and some reliability issues, nag back out na ako.

Tipid sa crudo, I can source out parts and oil sa labas sabay PMS sa casa. That's what I do sa lahat ng Hyundai/Kia namin. Hindi na ako mangangapa kumbaga. Malaking factor yun warranty sa totoo lang, 5 years. Kailangan lang mapili talaga kayo sa matinong casa, best for me is Hyundai Dasma for warranty claim then Hyundai Las Pinas for PMS job. And for the past 15 years na hindi nawawalan ng Hyundai sa garage namin, I must say okay naman eh.

And tama, kanya kanyang choice yan, kanya kanyang opinion at ownership experience yan. Basta ako, masaya ako sa Hyundai/Kia.

Whats really going for accent is ung looks nya and sobrang tipid and hatak nga daw.

Sa looks kasi balanced ung stance ng pagka hatch nya no? Ung iba awkward e.

Usually pag hatak ang hanap mo ba bye sa FC, pero eto you get both. Thumbs up

What sets Hyundai apart from the Japanese cars is their CRDI engines. And the Accent is the only CRDI offered in it's segment, which is the reason for it's popularity. Hyundai gasoline engines do not have any district advantage over the Japanese. The only brands which compete with Hyundai diesels in this segment are BMW, Volkswagen & Peugeot, all European & expensive. TATA, which is Indian, still remains unproven but looks promising. Unfortunately, for the good "dr", his opinions & judgement on Hyundai is based on what he read & how he interpreted these to make it appear to the gullible readers in this forum that those are expert opinions. Al least he admitted that his comments are just AMATEUR. It is unfortunate that he is limiting his car experiences to Japanese gasoline cars.
