2011 Accent AT - Engine Knock!

Mga bossing, ewan ko lang kung anong Knocking tong sa akin, minimal lang ang sa engine bay ko, ang malakas e yung katok pag nag change gear ako. may lagatak sya pag apak ko ng gas after nag change gear, ang tunog nya yung parang "rear drive type na oto na may umiikot na "propeller" . yung tunog ng dalawang bakal. Ang hirap i-explain. pero yun yung naririnig ko. May naka experience na ba ng ganito?

yung knock ko naririnig at around 2500 rpm.. parang hirap yung makina.. may 2 bars pa yung gas ko pero nagpagas pa rin ako sa shell c5.. velocity na lang since 3 piso lang difference nila ng unleaded.. right from the start, nawala yung knocking sound at gumanda takbo ng engine.. im thinking of getting a citibank credit card para sa rebates ng shell..

Hi guys and good day.

I owned a 1.4GL AT Accent for about a month now and so far I had never experienced that "knocking sound" on my engine when gassing up on different stations. I've tried Petron Xtra Unleaded & Shell Super Unleaded, and wala naman akong naririnig na strange sound coming from engine...

And by the way, I am from cebu. Medyo nakakabahala nga lang if you read all the lines here. Kasi may mga conflicting arguments then with the problems stated out. We hope the HARI would clear these things out, because it is an alarming information esp. to those who wishes to grab an Accent...

IMO, what matters more is the gas station than the fuel. Im also from Cebu sir. May I ask where do you gas up? I want to be safe so as much as possible, I'd like to go to the tried-and-tested. :-)

Parang sa under chassis sir, especially after sa humps, then press gas, Tak-Tak ung tunog tsaka minsan pag apak ko ng preno kunti dahil kelangan, lagatak sya bago ko palang i-next gear, yung tunog nya parang may propeller ka sa ilalim ng under chassis, akala mo rear drive oto mo. yung tunog na ganun. mga 3 weeks ko na to nararamdaman sir, plano ireklamo to pagka 5k PMS ko.

Mahilig kasi ako mag neutral especially malapit na sa humps, pag shift ko ng 1 or 2 depende sa speed after humps, tumutonog sya ngayon pag apak ko ng gas. di ko kasi nasilip what rpm yun at the time tumutunog sya, maya pag uwi ko observe ko what rpm sya. alam din naman natin na kapus ka sa power kung mali yung Gear number mo at the time aarangkada ka na after a slow down. hindi sya ganun eh.

Na-experience ko rin yan and raised it with Hyundai. As posted may kumakatok kapag inapproach mo yung humps na may onti (di ko sure pag sobra - haven't tried and won't be able to try hanggang wala pa unit) pang momentum yung sasakyan.

You don't need to have the transmission engaged, kahit naka-neutral basta may momentum ka pa at inapproach mo yung humps, may kakatok.

NOTE: if this is the case this shouldn't be related to engine knock...

IMO, what matters more is the gas station than the fuel. Im also from Cebu sir. May I ask where do you gas up? I want to be safe so as much as possible, I'd like to go to the tried-and-tested. :-)

normally sir, my preferred stations are those along north road (Shell Station near shemberg, and Petron, about 300Meters from shell)...

kahit nag pa v-power ako may tunog pa din.. hindi naman ganun kalakas pero for a car under 1000km, sana naman walang ganung tunog.. parang hirap yung makina.. baka may tama na nga yung spark plug.. buti na lang nasa 700km na ako.. malapit na mag pa pms..

Sa pandinig ko sir, parang nanggagaling sa under chassis, hindi sya tunog ng makina mismo. hindi rin natin makunan ng recording kasi kelangan patakbuhin yung sasakyan. katok talaga sir. tok tok. ganun yung tunog nya.

i just have my 1000km PMS today at Hyundai Global and I am very satisfied with their service... unlike in Hyundai Alabang na gagawin kang mukang tanga sa kahihintay na ientertain ka ng SA. Mine is 1.4AT Veloster Red luckily and hopefully not di ko pa naeexperience yung mga complaints about Accent, except the rattling sound coming from the engine bay and I believe its not engine knock... we have tried other unit at showroom M/T and A/T Accent and it produce the same rattling sound... and when you closed the hood you cannot hear it even if your inside the car, sometimes I need to look at the rpm needle just to make sure the engine is still running when in idle... neither hearing the lagatoks when in humps or rough road... anyway the car has just pass 1000km today so I hope I wont have this problem at my 5000km PMS... damage ko for PMS today is around 1650 oil+filter... why dont we have an ACCENT eyeball and let's compare our issues and use each this as our reference... then we can clearly say if it is an Isolated or Massive problem.

Well, it's nearing a month now since I returned it. Given the circumstance, and the fact that the interior is filled with blade marks by the one who tinted the car - I'm hoping so.

*georgie35: magsama ka ng kapamilya mo or kabarkada mo sa tsikot, pwede ma-record yung tunog, need mo lang ng phone na may audio recorder at hahawak habang dina-drive mo unit mo.

That's given na ang onti pa lang ng 1.6 owners na nagpa-participate dito chief. Hopefully kapag dumami na eh huwag naman sana apektado ang unit nila.

This engine knock happened two days ago with our 2 month old Accent 1.4L A/T. For fear of running out of gas kasi malayo pa Shell Service Station, did what one would do under the circumstance, gas up at the nearest fuel station I could find, which was MOBAN (this station should be BANNED since they sell crap for fuel). I even casually asked the attendant how their fuel is and kung merong tubig ang gasolina nila and all that nonsense chit chat to which he replied, "Petron 'to"..must be referring to their fuel supplier. I didn't notice or hear the engine knocking sound since I was excited to listen to music I downloaded to my USB the night before and AC was on number 2 or perhaps it was the anticipation of a long (2.5hr) trip to Sorsogon City which also made me unaware of the situation underfoot. We heard it on our return trip and was very erratic and pronounced. Me and the wife kinda looked at each other in total disgust at how our brand spanking new car is making that sound when I wasn't doing anything but stepping on the gas pedal. I even called my agent midtrip to let him know about the issue and and advised me to bring the car to the casa in the morning so they can check and since it wasn't affecting driveability of the car, we proceeded home. The next day, we gassed up Shell with Unleaded and somehow didn't notice this knock. We even gassed up at Petron with XCS and problem seemed to have faded away. I am going to continue to monitor this Accent issue and let y'all know.
