hello to all...
good day.
just wondering if there's any word regarding 1.5crdi variant for the i10?
hello to all...
good day.
just wondering if there's any word regarding 1.5crdi variant for the i10?
hello to all,
i've been smitted by the hyundai i10 lately, but it seems that the general comment of most i10 owners is that the FC is falling below expectations...
thinking this is a small car with a small engine, it should realistically & easily manage 13-14km/L city driving & maybe 18km/L on the highway... but it's far from the truth...
could it be that the power-to-weight ratio is improper? especially if it's a 1.1 AT... but at the very least, the 1.1MT FC should be satisfactory?
any comments regarding the 1.2AT? is the slightly bigger engine a better match for the automatic tranny? there seems to be mixed reviews...
or how about the fact that it's DOHC... does it contribute to it's FC?
so all in all, which among all the i10 variants is the most fuel efficient?
need your thoughts... thanks...
IMO its power to weight ratio that makes the i10 not as fuel efficient as one might expect!
i10 GLS 1.1 A/T
(source: Motioncars.com car chart)
Curb Weight = 920 kg
HP = 66HP * 5500RPM
And let's say the Toyota Yaris
Toyota Yaris 1.5G A/T
(source: Toyota Motors Philippines website)
Curb Weight = 1080kg (for the automatic)
HP = 107HP * 6000RPM
So their power-to-weight...
i10 = 0.0717 HP/kg or 71.74 HP/ton roughly...
Yaris = 0.1 HP/kg or 99.07 HP/ton roughly...
The higher the BETTER! So that explains why even though the Yaris has a bigger engine and a body that is 160kg heavier its still is arguably better in fuel consumption... I am totally sold that power to weight ratio is the most important NON-HUMAN stat that affects fuel economy!
i don't think so. Hyundai GC has a higher power-to-weight ratio. with your argument, it follows that GC should be more fuel efficient.The higher the BETTER!
let's take it again from motioncars.com
Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 A/T
(source: Motioncars.com car chart)
Curb Weight = 1,542kg
HP = 306 * 6300RPM
power-to-weight ratio should be roughly * 199.44 HP/ton
this should be more fuel efficient, right? wrong. ask some GC owners here if they can achieve 8km/L on city driving.
there's a bell curve with power to weight ratio. nearer the crest, the better. if the car falls shorter or farther than the crest, the more fuel inefficient.
^^But that is too much displacment naman! 1.5L (Yaris) to 1.1L (i10) ok, pero 1.1L (i10) to 3.8L V6 (GC) syempre maskin mas mataas ang power to weight nya mas matakaw pa rin sa gas. Power to weight has its limits too, the body and the engine size has to be balanced well and the i10 is not as well balanced as say Yaris. The closer the cars being compared to then power to weight makes sense...

Only when I asked did they mention about it, and most of them mentioned mileage of 12 km/L. So I really didn't have high expectations about it.
In my case, I bought the i10 because it was the most affordable for us without compromising comfort. I would have gotten the Spark but space was a little bit cramped for me. Bonus na lang yung fuel efficiency (I'm now getting 11 km/L city driving). If I get a more fuel efficient car, say the Vios, di ko naman mababayaran ang monthly dues sa bangko, so di rin ako nakatipid sa huli ;)
hehe.. ok tidus, i was taking your point too literally. but i still don't agree that "the higher the better, with the closer the car being compared". to illustrate, let's take a 1.8S and 2.0S Civic FDs
in motioncars.com:
2.0S A/T
HP: 155 * 6000
Curb Weight: 1295 kgs
Power to Weigh Ratio should be roughly around 119.69 HP/ton
1.8S A/T
HP: 140 * 6300
Curb Weight: 1235 kgs
Power to Weigh Ratio should be roughly around 113.36 HP/ton
clearly, the 2.0S has a higher power-to-weight ratio. but is it more fuel efficient? nope. even with motioncars.com's test, 2.0S shows a fuel efficiency of 9.56 km/L while the 1.8S is at 12.31 km/L.
let's also take a look at the city and jazz FEs:
City 1.5 A/T
HP: 120 * 6600
Curb Weight: 1145kgs
PTW ratio: 104.80 HP/ton
City 1.3 A/T
HP: 100 * 6000
Curb Weight: 1130 kgs
PTW ratio: 88.50 HP/ton
Jazz 1.5 A/T
HP: 120 * 6600
Curb Weight: 1110 kgs
PTW ratio: 108.11 HP/ton
Jazz 1.3 A/T
HP: 100 * 6000
Curb Weight: 1080 kgs
PTW ratio: 92.59 HP/ton
plotting these points on the graph where your y-axis represents fuel efficiency and power-to-weight ratio for your x-axis, you will get a bell curve:
looking at the graph, the closer you get to the X mark, the more fuel efficient your car is. you fall short, more inefficient. you go farther, more fuel inefficient.
in power-to-weight terms, the X mark could be from 90-110 HP/ton
As for the Jazz there are some reports that the 1.5L A/T can be more fuel efficient that its 1.3 counterpart especially the 1.3L A/T...
its a way of money. imho.

^
Yhup, I agree. Masasanay ka naman pag-tagal eh, diba?
yun nga lang, matigas.
Solution? Swap it with the one at the back, or better yet buy a headrest cushion.![]()

Hayaan mo lang yan as designed.
