Ok that's good to know. Thanks!!
By the way, which is a more fuel efficient technique?
Rev slowly and lightly but you stay in the lower gears longer or just step a little harder so it reaches desired speed faster and then release to take advantage of a little hyper milling?
Steady acceleration at around 2000 rpm until your desired speed and then minimal throttle input to maintain that speed. Coast as much as possible if you're approaching a slower car (instead of braking). Then gradually accelerate again to your cruising speed.
Always imagine that your brakes don't work and your fuel tank is near empty. Every hard squeeze of the throttle and brake pedals causes unnecessarily higher consumption.

I do what you suggested as much as possible well except for the 2000rpm. In fear of higher FC I end up staying a lot around 1500-1800rpm which results to slower acceleration towards my desired speed. Will try to use 2000rpm to be able to coast more. Medyo adjust lighter agad Ako whenever I see the green ambient light turn white kasi. Hehe
I drive a 1st gen CR-V with over 220,000 mileage
city driving 5-6KM/L
mixed 6-7KM/L
pure highway 10-12KM/L
pero recently i just average at 5.5KM/L grabe ang lakas sa gas.. gawa narin siguro ng traffic ngayon..
50kms drive from home to work
20kms highway 5kms city per one way trip
Honda Jazz i-Dsi
18.8 km/L
Ave. speed 60-80 kph
My car is in good condition but i don't know why i am only consuming 3 kilometers / liter, can anyone help me increase my gas consumption? Need all the help please!
Honda civic 96 vti
Have you checked your air filter and throttle body? Accumulated dirt and dust blocks air flow which can cause increased fuel consumption.
If your car is automatic, have you experienced any sliding in the tranny? Increased fuel consumption and sliding (skipping gears) are tell-tale signs of tranny failure.
Hi Egan101 - thanks for your reply. I'm using a manual transmission. Actually i just had a tap overhaul and since my engine was opened i told my mechanik to check other stuff that needs fixing and cleaning and i think he did, my engine runs smoothly its just my gas consumption that's killing meMeron ka ba kakilala na magaling na mekaniko where i can bring my car?
Well he told me what he did but not in so detailed since he has been our mechanic for the longest time we don't actually ask that much and we just let him do his thing. but I'lll go back to him and ask everything he did and post it back here and maybe you can help me decipher if we forgot something to check on the engine. Thanks!
hello po new bie lang.. pano po malalaman ung FC km/liter san po makikita ?
Most accurately done by manually computing...
Pa full tank ka... automatic lang, huwag isagad. Take note of odometer (OdometerOLD).
Drive.
Pa full tank ka ulit... automatic lang, huwag isagad. Take note of odometer (OdometerNEW). Take note of number of liters used (Liters).
(OdometerNEW-OdometerOLD) / Liters = km/liter
Tingnan mo kung ilang km natravel mo between full tanks. Then divide mo by ilang litro kinarga mo on your next full tank.
Step by step para malinaw:
1. Pafull tank ka muna
2. Reset mo yung tripmeter mo
3. Drive around hanggang maubos yung full tank mo.
4. Pafull tank ka ulit
5. Note down kung ilang km binyahe mo from your tripmeter
6. Divide the total km travelled by the total fuel na kinarga sayo (in liters)
7. You will get your accurate fuel consumption consumption in km/L.
Sample - nagfull tank ako, bumyahe ako 200 km, nagfull tank ulit. Total fuel na kinarga sa second full tank is 25L. So 200 km ÷ 25L = 8 km/L.
Easier way to check your FC - basahin mo yung reading sa kotse mo kung meron siyang built in trip computer.

Here's a graph of my Civic's FC (y-axis) vs. avg speed (x-axis):
- Improvement in FC follows a parabolic curve as average speed increases
- 20 km/L outlier was when I did an eco-run from Manila-La Union
Looking closer at the city driving FC alone:
- Every 1 kph increase during heavy traffic (under 15 kph) has a very sharp improvement in FC
- In moderate traffic (16-20 kph), FC is roughly the same
- Steep linear increase again in FC as avg speed increases in light traffic
Data was from 66 full tanks from a total of over 24,000 km travelled.

CRV Gen1 AT (7-8 km/l)
----------
- 215/75/15 35psi front/back, short ram .. the rest stock
- 6 mos. oil change, 50kms atf/differential change
- 2 passengers usual .. minsan 4
- same driving habits (2.5k max rpm unless needed .. 3k expressway lang)
- aircon always on
- full tank method
- 3 months interval gas change: shell (fuel save | lagro, caloocan) -> ptt (blue 95+ | regalado) -> petron (xcs | greater lagro)
Route: bulacan -> c5 -> bgc (70kms balikan na) (usual heavy traffic except uwian sa gabi mabilis sa libis -> ateneo area)
Shell: 6.8 -> 7.4 km/l
Ptt: 7.6 -> 8.2 km/l
Petron: 6.5 -> 6.9 km/l
Route: bulacan -> commonwealth -> nlex -> jasa -> san antonio -> pundaquit (352kms balikan) (pampanga area traffic and san antonio)
Shell: 12.5 km/l
will try unioil next pero using ptt ever since
might consider removing these to improve fuel efficiency
- removing front bull bar
- removing step board
- removing air canister box
