The first U-turn slot in the Aurora Blvd-Katipunan Junction was designed for small cars only (take a look at the concrete blocks on the other side, very narrow). The buses, jeepneys (with humongous steering ratios) and those who want to take the Katipunan southbound route are supposed to use the second U-turn slot.

The idea is good. The implementation and enforcement is another story. But for the idea and the political will to make it happen, hats off to BF.

MMDA in ortigas edsa had an experiment a few day ago, NO LEFT TURN TO EDSA coming from both sides of ortigas, kelangan kung galing ka greenhills tawid ka muna edsa to Galleria then u-turn sa ilalim ng flyover, sa dami ng kita nila sa jeep at bus dun on both sides, hinid nila mapaalis ang mga illegal terminal dun so todo trapik... ganun din kung galing ka ortigas center...now its back to left turn edsa. tinakpan na ng karton yung no left sign...

I understand that U-turn slots must be positioned properly to decongest traffic. But what bothers me here is the fact that you have to drive some considerable distance to get to a slot and the same length going back.

Let me put it this way. In Katipunan, say you ate at Shakey's and need to go to Boni Serrano Ave. Some will do the shortcut and counterflow, yes. But for those law-abiding others, they will need to go all the way to the slot underneath the Katipunan flyover, which is a bit over 1 km. That's more than 2 kms. already if you count the return route. Like c'mon, gasoline isn't cheap, and these widely spaced U-turns are not helping us save fuel half the time. It may prove better for traffic at peak hours, but in all other scenarios, they are no good.

I think the first u -turn slots is for light vehicle and the second is for long vehicles such as trucks and trailers.

yan ang hirap sa PUVs natin. well dahil na nga rin sa mga sumasakay. this is something BF's enforcement team should work on. di rin pwedeng excuse ang "marami kasi sila, hindi namin kaya." sayang na naman ang nasimulan na.

The problem is... what is for the greater good?

The U-Turn slots are a menace. It has never worked properly on C5, especially in the Libis area. I'm just waiting for them to close the U-Turn slot near Eastwood, to complete the job. Why the hell do you need a U-Turn slot there, when there's a perfectly fine one near Jollibee? Actually, why do you need one near Jollibee?

I admit, it'd be a small inconvenience to travel an extra two kilometers and back to get to Eastwood from Cubao... but that's 4 kilometers in easy flowing traffic... maybe 10-20 pesos for you or me. But when we had all those U-Turns? That caused terrible congestion... an extra 10-20 pesos for everyone using the area.

What boggles the mind is, they removed one intersection, which serviced the area perfectly well, and replaced it with six U-turn slots, which caused traffic, congestion, lane-jumping, accidents, U-Turn counterflow (they should post one enforcer there 24-7... sobrang laki-kita nila doon kung 24 hour enforcement...) and forced establishments to re-route their exits and entrances to adapt (Shopwise moved theirs because the U-turn right beside it was causing accidents and traffic).

And... oh, by the way... have any of you tried walking across C-5 now? because of the U-turns (which cause people to pass on the right, and blocks their view of pedestrians at those points) and lack of intersections, it's very dangerous.

The only sane place to place U-turns, really, is under overpasses and at intersections... Period.

Look at other ASEAN countries... you have to drive an extra few kilometers to get to your U-turn slot, but at least you don't have to play dodgeball the whole way...

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
