If I were the truck driver that would kill 17 people, I'd rather die with them than suffer the guilt and jail time.

Pansin ko lang pag ganyan lagi truck driver ang kulong, lagi hindi damay yung may ari ng truck or maintenance ng company.

Buhay yung driver, nakakulong na.
Tama ka dapat kasama sa kaso yung operator o may ari ng truck, busines use yung truck.

Doc, more than a decade ago i remember some lawmakers looking to put speed limiters on Buses and Trucks. The Owners and Association of Bus and Truck drivers were opposed to it kaya hindi natuloy. too much money involved.
During those times they can easily tamper with those speed limiters although now with the advent of GPS speed surveillance medyo malabo na.

Making the operators face steep fines and jail time (especially when equipment failure"loss of brakes" is alleged - potentially from lack of maintenance/overloading) would make safety a necessary "evil" for them if only to clear themselves of liability.

the guy might have been doing it for some time now, "but for some reason, under-estimated it this time."

Saw the comments. Bandang Laguna daw. Inatake yung driver while driving and was unconscious when the accident happened.
