Guys, I was cruising along Roxas Blvd. yesterday around 12 noon and turned right on P. Ocampo (street in front of CCP). May dalawang stoplights dun.

Now, eto nangyari: Since 4 lane ung daan (2 papuntang taft, at 2 pabalik ccp). May Ford Explorer (pick-up version) na nag-occupy ng 3rd lane (which was supposed to be para sa mga pabalik ccp). Eh since naka-open windows ko (tumigil kasi buhos ng ulan nun at tipid ako sa aircon dahil malamig na), couldn't help but overhear what the enforcer told the driver. Eto sabi: "Pano nyan counterflow ka? Violation yan eh... tabi mo muna ha?"

WTH? Then I checked the LTO website regarding counterflow as a violation and what I found were violations that could be connected to the case but this is what I found weird. Can you consider it as counterflow if:

    1. No traffic was directly against the lane taken by the SIR which just followed the EXPLORER.
    2. The SIR was half inside the proper lane (dahil sagad na nakagilid ung mga sasakyad sa right-most lane); and
    3. How come the SIR was halted while the EXPLORER wasn't? To the fact na dalawa silang pulis na nandun nung time na yun?

Could anyone shed some light on this? TIA.

You could tell by my sig na nandun lang talaga ako nung sinita siya. =D

dapat pati yung explorer hinuli. iirc valid violation yung counterflow, i just don;'t have access to that LTO list of violations.

but i think the officer probably thought that he could only write one ticket at a time. so isa lang ang pinara niya. malas lang ni SIR that he was chosen.

it's like when you go out fishing....you don't catch all the fish in the sea, do you?

yup... counterflow nga yun since going to CCP yung kabilang lane na.

The penalties for counterflow are P2,500 fine (kung hindi pa nag-increase) and 3 months suspension of driver's license (could be waived if first violation). It is considered a dangerous traffic violation.

Sa Bacoor/Las Pinas,- way of life ang counterflow. Imagine, you're stucked in traffic for 15minutes because the traffic enforcers are 'lending' all of the lanes to the 'counter-flow'.... hehehe. Worse along coastal road going to Cavite,- 30minutes pa yata.... tsk tsk

Count na lang from 1 to sawa to ease the mounting *#$%...

I've read the list of LTO violations and I think counterflow falls under "Reckless Driving". A friend of mine said this is what the officers put on the ticket.

Is Counterflow a valid traffic violation?
