BACOLOD CITY, Philippines -- It wasn’t exactly a remake of the Carabuena-Fabros showdown but the verbal jousting of a doctor and the head of the police’s traffic division set this normally laid back city buzzing late Wednesday afternoon.

It all began when Dr. Benjie Gonzaga, who works with the city health office, attempted to make a left turn at the Circumferential Road when a 4-7 p.m. “no left turn” scheme was in effect because of repairs being undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways.

But a group of policemen who were directing traffic, led by Chief Inspector Luisito Acebuche, blocked Gonzaga’s car and explained that a rerouting was in place.

An irate Gonzaga shouted at Acebuche, insisting he be allowed to pass.

“Do you know who I am?” Gonzaga asked the police officer, who he also ordered to “call Acebuche and tell him that it’s me, Dr. Benjie Gonzaga.”

Alighting from his car, he engaged in a shouting match with Acebuche, an altercation covered live by local station dyEZ Aksyon Radyo.

When Acebuche finally identified himself, Gonzaga took a different tack and claimed he had a house call to make, but not before he had shouted invectives at the policemen.

When asked by Aksyon Radyo reporter Art Tayhopon who his patient was, Gonzaga refused to answer. “I am just doing my duty as a doctor,” he said.

The policemen later brought the doctor to Police Station 4 where they learned he was driving with a temporary driver’s license after his license was confiscated several days ago when he bumped a policeman riding a motorcycle.

Acebuche said they will be filing charges against the doctor.

Wala pakong nae-encounter na matinong TE lahat kokotongan ka not to mention sila pa dahilan kung bakit nagtra-traffic metro manila kasi bayad yan sa jeepney, bus and fx etc. Basta gumawa ng kalokohan jeepney, bus and fx nagiging bulag mga yan. Generalize na kung generalize.
