Wanna add my own peeves: I try to be patient and chill whenever I drive, but I get my share of inconsiderate motorists that really rile me up:

    • A lot of people don't know how to follow or refuse to follow the "alternate" rule for merging traffic; my car almost got bumped by an old Hi-Ace once who sped up to get ahead of me. I was along North Avenue going to Quezon Memorial Circle, he was going out of Trinoma. I let a car get ahead of me who in turn was tailgated very cosely by a cab who I let pass as well as there's no use forcing the issue, as it will just cause problems, right? Anyway, as I was about to move forward after the cab went through, idiot Hi-Ace driver forced his way even though I let TWO cars through already. I blinked my lights twice but idiot driver still went forward. I had to brake suddenly to avoid him ramming through me.
    • Cars counter-flowing, even in the presence of double yellow lines. And they have the guts to get angry at you for reminding them gently with a few quick blinks from about a block away! Often happens to me along Dela Costa in Makati in the morning when I go to work.
    • Cars who do not respect the yellow box. You are already there for a couple of minutes. The vehicles clear and you can already proceed to turn when a car dozens of meters away accelerates to squeeze ahead of you! Oftentimes happens near Valle Verde Country Club. I'm usually coming from the direction of ULTRA going up to turn left.
    • Cars who double park on busy streets and leave their cars' hazards on because they're "only be gone for a few seconds." Happens a bit in Kapitolyo at night when cars double park just past the main entrance because the drivers are buying lechon manok. Grrr!
    • Cars who go through the "wrong way" in a mall's parking area. Happens frequently in SM North Edsa and SM Hypermart in Tiendesitas. Once, I stopped beside a well-dressed female driver who was on the cellphone and facing the wrong way in SM North Edsa. I rolled down my window (she had her window open) and I said, as politely as possible "Ma'am, I think you're going the wrong way." Note that I said "think" despite being absolutely sure I was right. Her response? "Wala kang pakialam!"

    Lovely country, isn't it?

naaasar ako sa mga drivers na mahilig huminto sa dulo ng ramp ng carpark. lalo na when it's a steep incline. dun pa sa dulo nagiisip kung aakyat ng another level. no problem with cars that are automatic or even manual as long as you can handle it. but still!

Parang may kinakatakutan sila sa L4 and above! Once you reach L4, halos walang kotse unless it's one of those 3-day sale events.

Pagka exit ng escalator, titigil sila at magdadaldalan pa on whether to go left, right or straight.

Bro, whether she's on the wrong way, wala talaga tayong pakielam kung hindi naman tayo naperwisyo...but if this happen to me, I rather be a little bit rude. I'll just rolled down my window and point out to her the wrong way sign without a word in my mouth but with a smile in my face...

Actually, I was (and other other motorists ahead of me were) a bit hassled because she didn't even have the courtesy to position her car a bit to the side. She made it difficult for vehicles going the right way who had to squeeze very slowly to avoid hitting her car or the other cars that were already parked.

And to CVT: yes, she was actually attractive. Too bad her manners weren't nice.

may redeeming factor naman pala e.

Another unacceptable practice: Driveway blockage. jeez. Lalo na pag di mahagilap yung driver.

Wala yan sa na-experience ko. Just the other week, siksikan sa amorsolo dahil rush hour.

don't know kung nasabi na to...
lagi kong nae-experience to sa SSHW at Edsa: pagmagcha-change lane ako, i put on the proper signal light. when it seems clear, i do my move... BUT almost always, the car that i saw around 15 meters away (at least) on the lane i'm switching to floors it so i have no choice but to almost stop kahit na nakapasok na ko para di kami magkabangga. tsk tsk by the way, i don't drive fast.

what's with these drivers? is it an ego thing na ayaw me makakapasok sa lane nila? grabe! and dami kong close calls sa ganito. seems that my signal light actually meant for them to hit the gas! ang labo.

*sgt_taga: I feel you bro. I really hate it when I'm changing lanes and I signal way in advance yet the person on the lane I'm transferring to moves in to prevent me from being able to get in. The worst part is that I try so hard to be a good motorist in that whenever a car signals that it wants to get in my lane, I oblige by slowing down (as appropriate) and letting it pass... and yet this goodness is hardly being reciprocated.

And yes, I believe it's an ego thing... and an EQ thing.

Of course, there is the corollary where a driver on the adjacent lane uses "gulpe de gulat" and just swerves to your lane without any signaling. I have no choice but to step on the breaks and deftly move to to the opposite lane to avoid hitting them. Of course, such a maneuver understandably irritates drivers on that other lane (sigh) but what can I do? I've had dozens of experiences with near misses caused by such reckless drivers.

The best one can do is really be very, very vigilant, not to mention patient and forgiving.

Actually, I would understand why some people do that.

Reasons like, he/she may have noticed that you are too slow. so if he/she will give way, then he/she needs to slow down and step on the break. I for one do this, because I hate it when I am at a certain speed, and somebody changes to my lane, and that car is slow as a turtle.

In the US, people give way. why is that? because they have speed limits. if a road says 35mph, everyone stays near that, with a plus minus 2 tolerance. driving at 15mph on 35mph road will net you a ticket. I know, because I failed a driving test in the US because of this.

Now, its a different story if that car needs to transfer to your lane because he needs to turn left later on, or, if that car has almost the same speed as yours.

Its going with the flow of the speed of traffic.

Well said...I agree to that! Most of us here do complain but we fail to evaluate our skills and knowledge in driving. I will point this issue to our poor system of LTO...kahit nga bulag nakakakuha ng prof. driving license, unlike abroad, they are strict in taking a license. They make sure that the driver knows the rules and the proper driving habit before they issue a license.

I do agree, what lacks us is the sense of discipline in obtaining our licenses. masyadong tiwala ang LTO satin pag may kumukuha ng lisensya. pagbigay sayo ng exam may sagot na agad. how poor our standards are, kaya naman most drivers specially PUV drivers do things on their own without thinking that they have other motorists beside them...

Bad motoring etiquette: What you hate the most.
