Parang feeling natin i-kakahoy yung kotse pag dun sa kanila mag park
Their Purolators looked okay in terms of build although the packaging was also different from the old US ones as observed. I checked out DIY shop a few weeks ago and their real-deal US Purolators were also being replaced slowly by the ones similar to those carried by Rapide/Kwik Parts. What gives? Purolator has a new factor/supplier or something?

I will email them this week and see what's up. But it looks like they are in a partnership with Bosch and Mahle Hammel which we know Bosch has a factory in Malaysia and they are most likely producing these Purolators but they should have a country of orign on them.

That would be great, Doc. According to the salesman (who wasnt too knowledgeable), they import it in from Singapore. If your thoughts are true then these would be quite good (given the quality is at par with the US ones) as Purolators are relatively cheap and easier to find around.
I'll bet the motorshow display people are wondering why more people are inquiring and scrutinizing their filters more this time around

I found there distributor, I don't think they actually produce them but are a distribution center just like how Fleetguard does through Singapore. They are probably produced at the same plant as the Bosch filters in Malaysia.
Unicla International :: Oil Filter
You would have to cut one open to check the actual quality.
The current ones here look like this.
The older ones will have a string around the filter in the middle.
This has a lot of good shots of Purolators.

April 3rd, 2012 05:41 AM #1686just checked the box of the luber-finer i got from w&l.. it says made in malaysia. ^_^
the filter is an old stock, no indication that it is a luber-finer but just a sticker saying PH920, but sure its heavier than all the filters i checked from the stores near my place.
VIC-P450, BOSCH-P390 and the new one i just encountered was FOREST-P220.

They are fakes, Champion labs does not have a plant in Malaysia, I also called and verified this as well.
Champion Laboratories Inc. - Worldwide Locations
They have nothing to do with that area including Singapore. Malaysia is like #5 in the world for fake oil filters.
Here is the top 8, China, Taiwan, Thailand, India, the Philippines, Malaysia, Syria and Turkey. As I recall someone posted on here about the local place that churns out Fake fleetguards and other brands.
Here are a couple of tips to help you tell a phoney from the genuine article:
Packaging If it appears flimsy, lacks the name brand or logo, or has graphics or a name that is similar to but not quite the same as those you're used to seeing, it could be counterfeit.
Colours Counterfeiters use colours, artwork and fonts on packaging similar to the original. Look for faded colors.
Price There will always be variation in prices of parts, but extremely large differences in price should cause you to be suspicious.
Of course the country of origin is a very big one. When the product looks nothing like what the manufactures site shows it's a dead give away it's a fake. Big companies have production standards that apply to all their factories.
Throw that sucker in the trash were it belongs. Don't risk your engine with a fake. Malaysia produces 17% of all fake automotive parts in the world, That's pretty dang high.
Some good examples of Malaysian fakes.

April 3rd, 2012 09:21 AM #1688During the Manila international auto show last week at the world trade center, This chinese manufacturer FOTON came out with a new pickup truck called Thunder, what made me curious with this brand is that it had a Cummins diesel engine. Upon checking out the engine bay it had a 2.8li ISF CRDI Cummins engine and the fuel filter I saw was a fleetguard filter. I couldn't see the oil filter if it too was a fleetguard one. I remember only Big trucks the size of Ford F350's had Cummins diesel engines.

They make engines in all sizes, from farm equipment to generators to boat engines. Only the Dodge Brand has Cummins engines.
If that's the case with Foton that's going to be one reliable little ride. Cummins run forever.
