Hi dvldoc. I have a pajero with 4m41 engine. I use top 1 15w40(synthetic diesel oil?) which cost around 300 pesos. If i use baldwin filters can i extend up to 10k kms? Or is it much better to use mobile tdt with baldwin on 10k intervals. Im a bit hesitant to use mobil tdt bec of its viscosity 5w40.

10000 km is actually really not a long oil change interval it's pretty short especially for a dual flow filter. 12000km is more in line what you should be running that filter. Top 1 oil is very good oil and from the US. There synthetic is group III base stock.

On a gas vehicle using say a Baldwin your wasting money if your running it less than 15000km on any synthetic oil.

But here's the deal, If you guys really and I mean really want to save yourself money on oil changes you will pick a oil and stick to it and pick a filter and stick with it and run it for 15000km and then get a oil analiis done with a TBN.

Not only will you now know how long you can run your oil you will know the state of your engine, you will know if your running a aftermarket air filter if it's doing a good enough job keeping particles out of your engine, if your leaking coolant in your oil or fuel in your oil and a bunch of other stuff.

Some might be surprised how far you can run oil and it still have a good high TBN especialy diesel oil. I plan on doing at least 3 on mine so I see how well my DIY dual bypass system is doing.

Yes, maybe you're right. Maybe I should at least try to push the envelop for my car's OCI. OT: I'm never really a fan of "tempting fate", so to speak. I tried it once (dumbass!!), I ended up having my Altis hauled on a flat bed then delivered to the casa. A really big headache! Can't blame anyone though, my own fault, hehe.

Well it looks like the the SL version of RP uses what's called Synerlec sulfurized ester additive as one of their additives so it's actually nothing to worry about. The newer SN will not have that Sulfur content since it's not allowed. But the TBN on that stuff is 12.7 it will last a very long time before needing to be changed out.

BTT: Thanks for doing the research for me about the royal purple sulfur thing, dvldoc. I was looking for the stuff in evangelista, makati, in mayo parts, as speedyfix said may be available (from another thread). They don't have it anymore. So I guess I'll be getting it from philshopping then pick it up in their office.

I was also canvassing for purolator filters in ACE Hardware in MOA, both for the Altis (Vic C-110) and Advanture (gas, Vic C-415). Both filters the salesguy gave me don't have the "Made in ___" print on the filter itself, but I did see it in their carton packaging (Fairfield something...). Are these still fakes?

The VIC C-110 is one of the worst filters out there don't use it unless you like lots of wear on your engine and a anti drainback valve that does not work.

Not all purolators will have the MADE IN on the filter but most do, they are made in Fayetteville NC, (North Carolina)

Both have about 1200ppm zinc so the level of protection will be about the same, it's going to come down to price.

I've checked those purolators at MOA as well, I have pics posted here in the first pages, seems like fake because the quality of material and the prnting as so faded and IMO not well crafted. Anyway using one for 2,000 kms and the opening it up may yield good data for us. care to do the honors sir? hehe

BTW, I checked my oil after 2,000kms and using Bosch oil filter. All I can say is it's still good and there is no sandy feeling of the oil compared to when I'm using Vic filters. I am really amazed by how clean the oil feels. Excellent!

Both those oils are good, but unless your running these at least 15000km your really wasting your money, A good group III oil will be perfectly fine especially if your only doing 10000km to 12000km oil changes, There is nothing that shows Group III cannot last just as long as Group IV true synthetics like Motul, Mobil and Royal purple.

Hi Doc...Been constantly reading this thread for quite some time now which made me realize how important our oil filters and of course, the oil we use itself...previously, im using full flow replacement oil filter made in korea and ZIC RV 10w/30, API-CI4/SL for my starex at a 5Tkms interval...Recently, im using the same oil and Bosch OF 313 made for Pajero 4M41...Why I use the one for pajero? Because i got it 100 pesos in a dept store inventory sale! Worth the try! But now, im very curious with the baldwin filters and i want to try it soon...My question now is given the same oil i use and if ever, baldwin filter, can i use it in a 10Tkms interval? Thank you very much for your help and please continue to educate us all!

Thanks doc! Currently using RP 15W-40 but thinking of using Mobil1TDT or Motul CRDi on the next oil change. Mobil1TDT is the most economical of these 3...

I you read the thread, not much problem with the 2 since we are talking about the weather here in the philippines and the w40 is whats important. No problem for that.
