As you said, higher rated diesel oil is good enough for 5,000kms COI.

Filter held up like a champ, Oil is still pretty black but that's mainly from soot, The lower quality fuel there makes it hard to keep that from happening besides soot particles are down in the sub 10 micron range.

What are you using to cut your filters, that's a pretty clean cut.

According to dvldoc, you can use these filter for up to 12,000 KMs per oil change using a good quality oil. So you change every 12,000 KMs together with your oil, am I correct Doc?

Yup that's what doc mentioned before. I just wanted to show him the actual condition of the filter after 5000kms, because the oil is really black after 5000kms on these engines(4d56)

The oil being that black is not a big deal, soot particles suspended in oil can be as small as 5 microns, Even with the synthetic media filters engine like our 5.9 Cummins diesel turns black the day after you change the oil. Not much you can do about it. But it does not have a detroment to the oils service life. Some engines are just sooty which is a combination of not the best fuel and that's it's a diesel engine.

That filter is in rock solid condition, that media has a long way to go before it stops filtering, Remember these fitlers are designed for extended oil change intervals over factory oil filters.

If your changing them out every 5000km your just throwing away money. And for the bypass section the dirtier they get the better they filter. Changing them out early reduces this effect. In reality the bypass section is good until it stops flowing oil these filters hold about 4 times more dirt than most OEM filters so a 10000km to 12000km oil and filter change interval is advisable

But if you really want to know how your oil is doing get it tested. Found this link for a long time ago I don't know is this CAT dealer is still around but it might be worth a look.

And here is a company that also does testing.

Alright doc, this will spare me from the hassle of topping up * 5000kms, plus save me a lot(filters and oil). Learned a lot from you doc, thanks. Oem filter cost around p900+ and needs to be replaced * 5000kms, while baldwin is just p765 to last upto 10000kms, this is really great!!!
