is it ok to mix different brands of fully synthetic oil for top-up or slight refill?

parang nabasa ko before sa Nissanbayan na sludge magnet daw yung magnatec. http://www.autoindustriya.com/talkbo...e15e82a38a36cc
though i can not verify this since i've never used castrol oil.
Just imagine...the power of forums/social networking, If we could share this good learning natin..not only we take care of our engines but saved money as well. And the most rewarding pa nun is we can contribute to unnecessary wastage of oils. Go Green environment. If not all but majority of car users are kinda OC when it comes to the oil of their engines..and leads to lots wastage burdening our eco system.
I remember this old issue. Several members encountered sludge problems in their rides with the use of the old Castrol GTX before. Take note that some of them are knowledgeable mechanics and are very anal of their car maintenance . I do believe it should be a thing of the past already since this were quite a long time ago, with older formulations. I can't tell since i'm not really a Castrol user.

Used Castrol in my bike before but got better performance from Shell AX7 instead.
Never tried castrol in cars though.

Castro is pretty low end oil especially if your not using there diesel oil, Pretty light additive package these days, Their current oil is pretty sad. I would not use it in anything.

will be buying Zic A gasoline oil as per recommend by dvldoc a few pages back.
miko, see you tom!
dvldoc is your elgrand running on remote bypass oil filtration?
Well it's not installed yet, But it will be. I designed my own system in which anyone could do, you can't get the parts locally there though. I have posted my old set-up before. But I switched my Fleetguard startapore filter for the New Venturi LF9028 filter.
This was my old set up I just switched out the Statapore media filter (fleetguards best) 98% efficient at 15 microns 73% * 5 microns. The black filter is a luberfiner with synthetic media which is 50% * 5 microns. Since both are Full flow filters I had to custom nipple made with a restrictor hole in it. I replace that with a normal one with the new filter since it is a true byapss filter all in one unit.
I'm using the LF9028 now which is around 95% efficient at 5 microns. Basically the best spin on single filter you can get. You do have to use a adapter to make this work, since the thread is a 1-16" like my black fitler. They are cheep though like 10usd.
Now you can use the Baldwin BD7317 as well which is much cheaper which is 50% * 5 microns but the Fleetguard holds like 7 times more dirt and can be run about 30000klm before it needs to be changed. And with having the filter set up much longer than that.
Here's the guts of both of them, The Baldwin is similar to the 4M40's version the BD28 but a totally different filter media for the bypass section.
Fleetguard is on the right.
You really don't need the Two filters but there is no such thing as overkill for this. A one filter bypass set can be done for about 120USD with the Baldwin or around 140 with the fleetguard.. You can put this on almost any vehicle with the following thread patterns.
3/4"-16, 13/16"-16, 1"-12, M18x1.5, M20x1.5 and M22x1.5
Kits look like this.
Pop one of these on a gas engine with a good sythetic diesel oil on a gas car that has less than 1200ppm zinc and you could run your oil 30000klm with no oil change pretty easy.
Reversed the first set of pics, Edit option on here is not working that great.
doc, how about salvaging the filtration system of a willys jeep engine....from the looks of it, it looks like a bypass filter. if i'm not mistaken the size of the hole on the discharge is 1/16 of an inch. search on the baldwin site gave me the P40 pail type filter.
a quick search on the net with regards to valvoline turbo 15W40 CF4 gave me an average of 8-10 TBN. yes it's cheap at P200/liter but i think i'd better switch back to delo gold which is stouter.
I have no ideal on that on, 1-16th is pretty much a cummins engine size.
This is the adapter I use to convert the kits 3/4 16" thead to a 1-16" thread, You just screw it on.
Now here's the deal you can just get this adapter above if you already have a 3/4 16 thread and have 8" of clearance and put a LF9028 or BD7317 directly on your vehicle. Would work on things like the TD42, TD27, Ford Everest ect ect. Your not going to fit it on most cars due to the space requirements without getting the full kit.
A competent machine shop could make this adapter for almost any size filter thread. It allows you to use a much larger and better filter.
dvldoc,
is it important to follow the manufacturer's recommendation of viscosity rating? in the manual of the innova and vios, the recommended rating is 15w40 and 20w50 for the Philippine climate.
im thinking of using 10w40.
thanks!
hi doc, been reading your thread sometimes,is it OK NOT to change my oil filter if i used trekker oil for only 1200kms? cause i wanna try the delo gold multigrade...
btw, i used vic filter ( sorry, due to unavailability of best filters in our province, vic is the only available filter here ).....
Bro pa-order ka na online ng bosch oil filter. Meron dito.Pinoy Superstore

pareho lang ba yan sila ng baldwin o fleetguard sir? salamat nga pala sa link..
Better ang baldwin, purolator or fleetguard (as long as orig as mentioned here). Mas sureball kung fleetguard na lang sa volmax bibilhin mo if ever. Thrice better than Vic kasi mga yan.
But Bosch is really good vs Vic. 2,800kms na odo o sa filter na yan for 3 months at yung oil wala ako ma-feel na sandy bits hindi gaya ng Vic dati na aglit lang may sandy feeling na yung oil. Alam mong may mga abrasive materials already circulating the engine and other parts .![]()
