thanks dvldoc... I have a new info.. i just emailed the head of Donaldson filters, he referred me to their official distributor here in the Philippines. here's the number 527-9044, The official retail store is located in 5th avenue Caloocan, PALEENO AP INC. tel no. 990-04-70
When i talked to Donaldson distributor, here's what i learned. It was known to them(donaldson filter philippines) that there is a place in Caloocan Philippines that produces fake fleet filters. The distributor told me,, that the counterfeit maker of filters are SOOO GOOD that scrupulous shops ( INCLUDING OFFICIAL RETAILERS) goes to them to make counterfeit filters.

they were able to fake any KIND/TYPE/SIZE of filters so long as you take a sample to them and they will fabricate a fake filter for you.

The fake filters are so good they are almost indistinguishable from the original ones.

Volmax who where PREVIOUSLY the distributor of Donaldson filters where Discovered by Donaldson Philippines to be selling fakes!! the distributor told me that volmax was mixing fake one's with the originals. that's why they changed their official retail store here in manila.

We should have a group buy.. buy from sir dvldoc so we could be sure its original. haha

    on another note sir dvldoc,
the filter i bought from pacer sure doesn't have any mark in the filter body itself that says where its made but the cartons says made in italy.
im also sure there's no plastic wrap. maybe its the reason why there's some kind of corrosion and discoloration on the 8 holes at the bottom filter part.
im contemplating on buying other filter brands who will me much less prone to counterfeits.
its better to buy cheap original than expensive fakes

crazy_boy, i have been using auto-rx, i thinks its good. i have had sludge and carbon build up problems on my pajero 3.5 gdi and it really does clean your internals... after i used the auto-rx, i cut open my filter and found dirt all trapped. i think it really does it job.

Marvel Mystery oil is not so much a cleaner as it is a additional lubricator it helps keep your engine clean but not much of a cleaner, to me it's kinda worthless if your already using good oil. Kreen is also good.

There fakes are obviously not good enough to fool everyone They don't fool me and they are far from good. It's obvious that some dealers sell fakes, and we know of the fake Donaldsons that have been found at some as well. Hopefully they learned there lesson on that one, at least the Baldwins are pretty good to go.

Good find on the Donaldson retailer, I'm not against any of the top brands as long as they meet the standards of being the real deal.

Here is another good example of fakes are bad.

    MAHLE | Counterfeit filters: It

You can almost 100% be assured if it has no country of origin it is a fake. Then the rest of the warning signs.

I see, thats the story behind Volmax.. Now i understand why they're still selling some Donalds and i have doubts if its real. This guy from Volmax told me they once supplied Donalds in the 90s but i ddnt bother asking why they stopped.

I dont think they would do the dirty style of dealership with Baldwins.. once they do that, theyre totally outa business..

I do get some of my Donalds and Parker Racor filters from Paleeno. Their warehouse is near 199 OffroadHouse and they have an office at Intramuros.

paleeno has stocks of Donaldson filters for my everest, but unfortunately they don't have cross for my pajero gdi.
i guess i have no option but to buy from volmax for the cross of the pajero. i emailed baldwin yesterday, they responded through my email

So Volmax is Baldwins recognized retailer partner here in the Philippines.

im just wandering, why the international companies and fleet filters doesn't do background checks on the companies and retailers they get for their product distribution, if they regularly check their store partners i think those stores wouldn't try to sell fakes.

Companies like donaldson, baldwin and fleetguard should be more proactive in protecting their products.
it always end up to "buyers beware"

Right on sir, these big companies should tie-up with more reliable partners like speedlab etc to market their products to benefit more people and by extending oil change intervals, we are also contributing to the betterment of our environment!

just called volmax, they do have the filter B2 for my everest, but no B1402 for the pajero gdi.... i was surprised when the saleslady on the phone asked me if i was one related to the forum (she maybe pertaining if am a member of tsikot or has know them through tsikot)

in said no.. so they are aware that we are discussing about fleet filters and the alleged rampant fakes allegedly bought from the many authorized stores ..i guess they are now becoming more cautious...

IMO, people who read here in tsikot are more discerning and more informed than those who casually buy from them..

    now their careful.. wahahha

They should be thanking us for all the extra sales we have sent there way, Plus them knowing that everyone knows what to look for keeps these places honest. Volmax has Legit Baldwin filters so it's a good deal. Now that they know the part numbers people with every day vehicles need they should stock more.

Dvldoc, called up WIX distributor in Quezon avenue... they have a near size match to that of the pajero gdi... im going to buy from them on Monday,, i am replacing the fleetguard filter i bought from pacer, ill post the pic of the fleetguard filter once i remove it... im not so confident about the authenticity of that filter i bought, that's why i need your opinion when the pictures have been posted.

i saw from the internet that champion labs are the one who manufactures both wix, bosch and other good filters...

what does nominal micron means? cause wix says it 21 nominal microns?
are those specifications mentioned here better than most filters?
    thanks

Is it possible that the baldwin filters that Volmax is selling has a mixed fake and original items, or the fakes are so good that they will pass for original filters? It seems the distributor of donaldson filters is ok, but are donaldson filters as good as FG and baldwin? Sorry for the insinuations, but my vehicle is one of my major purchases (binabayaran ko pa nga eh) and getting a fake oil filter is not one of the risks I want to make. I am quite confused who the real honest distributors are, kala ko ok na Volmax since I think all baldwin filters being mentioned at tsikot.com are being bought from them and then this came out. Can someone make a list of the reliable sources of these filters?
Actually I made a list already of my preferred filters based from my backreading of this thread paki correct na lng po kung may mali,

    • MD069782 OEM part number for a 4d56,
    • LF3564 yung sa Fleetguard (W&L Trading Corporation#33, 8th street New Manila 1112 Quezon, Philippines 721-9356)
    • Purolator L45262 (may fake at Ace hardware) - dont know who is the distributor or where I can purchase it
    • Baldwin BD28 (Volmax S. Padilla Manila 2448375 2448275, 2457076, 2448031, 2448373) - looks like questionable din Volmax

IMO, we cannot fully say that what they were selling were fakes but i suppose we use our logic in deciding. if what the previous dealer told me is true then we can never tell if one will repeat previous wrong doings...

we are buyers, therefore we solely assume the burden of finding out and safeguarding our vehicles.

the distributor of purolator is in pasig its along c.raymundo, you can search its company name as "all sales inclusive"..

i personally went to the distributor of wix in q.avenue and bought them myself.. they were accommodating in finding similar sizes to the vehicles i have.

i think the wix are a good compromise between performance and percentage of authenticity...

I could guarantee(for now) that Volmax is selling the real deal.

How did i know? Its my habit to cut-open my used Baldwin filters to check how well it performed. Now, by looking at the anti-drain-back valve, you could see embossed name "Parker". Genuine Baldwins uses ADBV supplied by PArker..

Volmax learned their lesson, so screwing up the second time with dealership is not their option.. I think the Donalds were just leftovers of an old stock..

Noticed the label is made out of sticker. Hmm..

i dont know Wix but i dont trust sticker labels.. For me, filters should always have painted labels.

*Doc, can you verify that Wix?? This thread really wants you to teach us to become counterfeit detectives..

First of all killer, killer find on the WIX, it's one of the best over the counter filters on the market.

Those are 100% real WIX, They do have stickers on them plus it has the scan bar as well as the proper date format on the top of the filter and the box is correct. Right crimps, right anti drainback valve cover. And other than the fact there is almost zero market for fake WIX this is a great find for those who want a great filter.

Here is won from Napa auto parts in the US cut open and it's the same as the WIX 51515 filter. NAPA gold = WIX.

Again WIX are not all fully painted logos, most of their new ones in the black cans will have stickers.

    WIX 51515

(A: Nominal rating usually means the filter can capture a given percentage of particles of a stated size (e.g. 50% * 10 micron). Absolute rating is the smallest typical particle size retained by a filter media at 98+% efficiency. This is also referred to as the Beta=75 or 98.67% efficiency rating. For additional information about nominal and absolute micron ratings)

But wix used the multi pass testing vs single pass so their math is a bit different.

Here is a little WIX secret

They have not updated online the ratings on there filters over a year ago they change up their filter media. Here's a example of how WIX math works.

51040 OLD (still almost as good as a Baldwin)
    50% at 15 microns
    95% at 31 microns
    Nominal 21

51040 NEW (killer performance for a over the counter filter)
    50% at 6 microns
    95% at 20 microns
    Nominal 21

WIX are superior to any over the counter filter sold there that is not a fleet style filter period.

Remote bypass oil filtration
