Guys don't over complicate oil changes.

Step 1: Check the manual if your engine require SN, SM, CF, CI-4, CJ-4 etc., certified oil.
Step 2: Check the temperate chart as well. It represents the ambient temperatures where you'll operate the vehicle. In the Philippines it can range from 10c (Baguio) to 38c, average around 30c.
Step 3: Check your budget. If you can afford synthetic go for it! Its the best oil you can buy. If on a budget consider semi-syn or plain mineral oil.
Step 4: Choosing the viscosity grade of the oil. (0w-30, 5w-30, 5w-40, 10w-40, 20w-40, etc.) Focus on the second number since we do not have snow here. The first number e.g. (5w) represents the oil viscosity during winter. That simply means you can use whatever multi-grade oil available for your engine.

Whatever oil you use does not matter much, what matters is you change your oil. Your budget will determine if you'll be using synthetic, semi or mineral.

Fully Synthetic for me since my car only runs about 5k kms per year. Casa requires shorter period (3 mos) if I use regular oil.

The oil viscosity may not change much with the newer generation oil, but breakdown of additives & dirt saturation of the oil may warrant the recommended O/C interval. This is debatable for some, but to each his own.

Yung sa diesel masyado naman yang maiksi. Diesel sa akin at parehong turbochrged pero kahit mineral oil, 5,000kms or 6 months OCI lang puwede na. Never had any problems sa engine. Basta API CH and up lang gamit ko kasi yun bagay sa turbo diesel. Preferably API CI rated oil.

    Maganda na mga langis ngayon.

That's already covered. Meron naman note sa baba.

*Oil change interval may be extended based on oil analysis but must not exceed 1 year.

Is it true na hindi recommended ang fully synthetic oil sa new engine?

Who told you that? As far as I know, from reading this thread & other articles, fully synthetics are far more superior in protecting a new engine than mineral based oils & are more stable under varied temp. ranges (i.e heavy traffic conditions). It does not mean that you can't use minerals, you just have to use the right grade & API rating as recommended by the manufacturer.

It wasnt recommended before because car dealers wanted to squeeze more money from customers.

If you are just breaking-in the motor or for short OCI say 5k kms, its a waste of money going fully synthetic.

Newer oils based on dino or hydrocracked nowadays offers good additives comparable to esther or PAO based synthetics.

Its true that Fully Synthetics last longer, but who wants to change oil every 1 year on a new motor when the oil is already pit black and you are trying to convince yourself the oil is still good without any oil analysis to back it up?

Sakin kung ramdam na mahina na humatak yung engine, kahit wala pa sa specified kilometers na natatakbo, pinapalitan ko na yung oil.

BTW, has anyone tried using Bardahl SynPower Fully Synthetic 15W-40? I'm planning to use this on D4D engine. Sa area lang namin ako naghahanap eh so kokonti lang mapapagpilian. Meron din nga palang Top 1 SDO, but currently looking for FS oils. TIA
