Good day, Sir Dieseldude! I've owned a 1st Gen Sportage, Diesel, Naturally Aspirated, Surplus Unit, for more than 2 years now.
Two weeks ago, I noticed nga mahirap siya i-start in the morning. Once successfully started, the rpm reads below the setting at 750-800, and the unit shakes a bit for a few seconds (like 1-2 secs) then aangat yung rpm to the idling setting at 750-800. At hindi na nag shake yung vehicle. Afterwards, napaka smooth na nang acceleration at takbo.
This concern (low rpm when starting and normalizes after 1-2 secs) repeats everytime I start the engine anytime during the day, kahit mainit pa ang makina from a prior drive.
I inquired with a mechanic-friend, at sabi niya my fuel pump needs replacement dahil daw malambot na nung top part nito if pressed. This was his observation two years ago also...na malambot daw ang fuel pump ko...but I did not change the fuel pump coz wala naman po akong problem with start-up and normal and stable naman po ang takbo.
I read in the previous post about the "palyado" pick up caused probably with a leaking check valve...
Btw, eversince this problem comes up, I tried pumping up manually (press up and down) the fuel pump in the morning to no effect. Same pa rin ang result with or without manual pumping.
Also, the injection pump was re-calibrated early February 2008.
