Pa-bump up lang. Car is a Isuzu Big Horn. Had no problems in starting and driving; however, once the aircon is turned on, all indicator lights start blinking and stop once the aircon is turned off.

Read good reviews about Rey's Electrical so decided to go there. After checking with a voltmeter, they said the alternator needed to be replaced. So had it done but the problem still remained. Sabi nung isa na gumawa dun something about crankshaft pulley na di na nila kaya and that I should see a mechanic.

Possible kaya na di naman dapat ireplace yung alternator? Was disappointed with the result coz I had relatively high expectations na madi-diagnose nila ng tama at masosolve nila yung problem. Am not that knowledgeable yet (still learning) and I kinda expected them to know better.

Any suggestions kung anong klaseng shop ba dapat ko dalhin? Thanks for all the helpful tips.

Most probably, it's the crankshaft pulley. The same thing happened to me on our hilander.

The bearing is broken and that is why it couldn't take the additional load of the A/C. You get all the indicator lights because it couldn't turn the alternator at the correct RPM as it couldn't carry the A/C load and power steering pump.

Since they were not able to resolve the issue, I suggest that you ask them to return the original alternator together with your money.

To answer your question, I can't remember the name of the shop where I brought our hilander. It's somewhere in Bulacan...

Crank pulley, aka harmonic damper, does fail. The rubber core breaks from the metal pulley. When this happens, everything that main pulley drives will be affected....A/C, charging, in some...the cooling, steering, supercharger, etc. The fix is simple....replace the pulley. To do that, you'll need a crowfoot pulley puller. I've invested in 1 that has gone lent around I don't even recall who the last one was.

Be very careful of honda civic and accord engines, the crankshaft turn CCW. It will tighten the bolt more until it snaps with this procedure. Do not believe all of this man's videos. Honda civic is west-east orientation (engine on the left or driver side and the transmission/transaxle on the right or pax side).

As you warned, Scotty did advise to see how the engine turns. Never do this trick w/o checking.

Thanks for the reply. Repair ba ito or may papalitan? Do you remember approximately how much it cost? Saka is it something an ordinary auto repair shop can do o specialized one?

Kaya kakainis kasi they took the easy way (recommend palit agad), instead of looking carefully and diagnosing the problem correctly.

What's worse is that during the replacement, they somehow damaged one of the hoses for the brakes and I lost my brakes as I was leaving. Pinalitan naman yung hose pero it was still a scary experience as I almost hit another car.

As mentioned / implied by *travajante, you need to replace it. It won't cost you that much.

Sir question po kase yung Nissan X Trail ko T31 wala ako napapansin na different until yesterday, may parang tunog na somewhat lata na may bato or something tapos when I checked yung loob, I saw na yung alternator area may maingay don parang kumakalansing na metal tapos yung rubber is moving but there’s a part at the bottom where the other side of the rubber is connected) na parang nagsshake. Sabi daw po more on either loose or too tight siya or bad wiring na daw. Any advice on this one?

i tried, but i can not make heads nor tails of your narration.
    does your engine still start?
does the battery icon remain lighted up, after the engine starts? that means, your alternator isn't alternating.
my recommendation is, bring it to the alternator shop asap, before your battery gets too weak to power your engine. when that happens, you're stranded.

Yes and no. Yes, you can start and run the car. No, because you won't be able to reach your destination.

i do not remember, what else that belt powers.
    the alternator... the power steering?..

if just the alternator, you can drive it for as long as there is enough power in the battery to fire up your engine and your aux fan. if your trip is malapit naman, you may just complete it before something really bad, happens.
that is, assuming you can start the engine. the more times you start it, the shorter the above distance will be.

but if your belt also powers the power steering (which i believe it does), i would not recommend driving that car on the street. it is very very difficult to move that manibela without the PS steering.
