Alternator Repair

Last saturday tumirik sasakyan ko, good thing a few blocks away nalang sa bahay namin, salamat nalang sa brgy tanod na nagtulak... sira ang alternator, while driving nawala na aircon, radio and signal lights. nag-light up na din ang battery indicator, nagdadasal nako na wag muna mamatay ang engine at umabot ako sa bahay... Oh well, here's my question, pwede pa ba ma-repair ang alternator or will i just buy a new one. newbie lang ako... naghahanap ako ngayon ng mag-home service kasi di ko talaga ma-start sasakyan ko bec of the busted alternator. how much will i spend on it? im from mandaluyong, meron kayong alam na mahusay mag-repair or kung saan makakabili ng bago, kahit surplus... Thanks in advance.

Ano ba car nyo? Kasi sa Handyman, they sell local bnew alternators for "common" cars like Corolla, Lancer etc, mga 3K lang bnew with 1 year warranty.

sir sure na ba talaga ang diagnose mo ay alternator...kasi baka pwede fuse lang or battery ...kaya ayw pa mag start (as for my experience)

pwede pa ba ma-repair ang alternator

pwedeng pwede pa po marepair ang alternator..

kahit sunog ang winding or worn out na bearing

hanap ka lang magaling na electrical shop lapit sa place mo .,Evangelista ,makati
dami daw doon .
(sorry di ako familiar sa area nyo)

will i just buy a new one

..

depende sa iyo kung mag add ka din ng mga electrical or electronics accessories..

better bili ka na din bago or surplus na higher ampere rating..

around 2K to 2.5K cguro ..

yep, sa bahay when i start the engine ok naman pero nag-light up na ang battery indicator, i ignored it and drove off. while driving napapansin kong humihina na ang aircon until totally mawala na, radio & signal lights wala narin power, so i quickly turned 180 and decided to go back home pero hindi ako umabot at namatay ang engine a few blocks before reaching our house.
i suppose talagang alternator po ang cause. By the way, my car is ae92 1.6... di ako marunong mag-kalas ng alternator para dalhin sa shop. temporarily i'll have my alternator repaired and will eventually buy a new one next month. Thanks sa info.

The one they're selling sa HandyMan is Ishin Denki brand. They have for almost all car brands and models. They also have upgrades (higher amp) but only if applicable to your ride, ideal for cars with a loadfull of accessories installed.

Ano ba ride mo? I suggest instead of buying surplus buy this one na lang, may warranty pa. I can help you get one if you're interested. I know Ishin Denki.

while naghahanap ka ng alternator, yung battery mo discharged na din so dala mo na sa battery dealer pa-charge mo na din. slow charge ha wag quick charge at masisira ang plates pag quick charge sa totally flat na battery.

kahapon i asked my bro to take the battery sa nearby shop para i-charge, pero di ko alam kung slow or quick charge ang ginawa 50 bucks lang ang binayad. di ko muna ikakabit bec sira pa ang alternator. sinubukan ko lang muna i-start pero i quickly turned off the engine.

me nag rerepair na namention here before. tower of david sa espana n somewhere in roces/pantranco area.

di ko lang alam kung nag hohome service sila

while your old one in undergoin on repair ..


try mo muna observe ang pinarepair mo ..baka maganda naman pag ka-repair ..sayang lang iyon pinambili mo ng bago...iyon kasi pinarepair ko major repair ang alternator kasi nasunog windings at palit bearing..ay OK pa naman 2 yrs na ginagamit..pa rin ..ImhO

Yes and no. Yes, you can start and run the car. No, because you won't​ be able to reach your destination.

Depende sa layo... mag overheat yan at maubos ang charge.. titirik ka lang

i do not remember, what else that belt powers.
the alternator... the power steering?..

if just the alternator, you can drive it for as long as there is enough power in the battery to fire up your engine and your aux fan. if your trip is malapit naman, you may just complete it before something really bad, happens.
that is, assuming you can start the engine. the more times you start it, the shorter the above distance will be.

but if your belt also powers the power steering (which i believe it does), i would not recommend driving that car on the street. it is very very difficult to move that manibela without the PS steering.
